Parts out of stock

Anyone else having a problem getting parts? Seems like everything I look for is back ordered or out of stock. 5 places I checked for tail lights were out and no clue when they would get them. 6th place I got the last pair. Lots of other parts the same. Looked for new wheels here and many are out of stock. Same alot of other places.

Re: Parts out of stock

I haven't bought any parts for my 48 lately so I can't say anything on that.

Still it is like plywood or anything else. When they aren't allowed into the factories for months on end to produce anything what is on the shelves runs out.

I'd say the big issue with trinkets for enthusiast rigs is that all the sudden guys had a lot of free time on their hands and some money coming in and that slow moving project all the sudden got a lot of hours put in on it and parts bought for it. The lumber yards and hardware stores did a landslide business in the past year. If they could get stuff to keep up with the demand.

I'd expect to see a lot of fresh builds showing up at shows in the next few months.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: Parts out of stock

Parts out of stock is a large problem in the auto repair business right now. Computer inventories are messed up, parts are arriving late, staffing changes happen weekly. Be patient.

Re: Parts out of stock

I haven't bought much lately for my truck but I'm sure the demand is up.

I work for a place that makes seats for small airplanes and our sales have doubled. We are 11 months out from the time you order, it used to be 3-6 months.

Back to looking for taillights. The place that said they had them called back the next day, computer was wrong and now they are back ordered. It seems almost every industry is having a parts shortage. I can't wait for things to get back to normal.

Re: Parts out of stock

Could have something to do with Covid. I know with late model cars that I work with everyday it's MIND FRIGGIN BLOWING how many parts are back ordered! Ford is number one, you wouldn't believe it! We are talking a couple year old car or truck where a part is MONTHS out. I had an 18 Mustang that the rad support was out for four months! I have a 17 F-150 grille that just came in last week that was ordered the first week of January!

It's crazy!

Re: Parts out of stock

There is just too much money in the economy right now. It took me 3 1/2 weeks to get a pack of 3/8 ARP bolts. My engine builder who is fitting my head and doing my block work was hoping to get me in this summer. Now I'm probably looking at early next year. There is not a lot of people around here with CNC engine block mills that will do my crazy stuff so I will just be patient. I make my money in chunks so I buy parts ahead of time. I have plenty of other stuff to work on. Some people make fun of me for buying parts I don't need for years but with todays prices and availability I'm feeling golden.

Re: Parts out of stock

This was five days ago but at that time there were 15 container ships at anchor around Puget sound that couldn't get to the dock to get unloaded.

A rail car shortage is one issue they are having all along the west coast. Meaning the cars that transport the containers to the rest of the country.

Re: Parts out of stock

Container ship anchored off the beach that one of the guys in a photo group I am in on FB posted from where he was camped on the beach.
Some of those delayed parts and maybe one of my online purchases may be sitting on it.
