C10 Insurance Opt

Hi guys,

I have to insure my 1969 c10.

My current 21st Century insurance does not insure before 1980.

Wondering if you have any recommendations?

GEICO seems to have decent rates.

Thanks

Re: C10 Insurance Opt

My '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500 is insured thru Hagerty as a classic vehicle.
By using a Year Of Manufacture* license plate and the collector car insurance, I got a much lower rate [~$250/year] and the Jimmy is exempt from annual ADEQ emissions testing.
* It's a lemon yellow Arizona plate [1969 - '72] with a '71 year sticker.

I had Hagerty agreed value of $20,000 at $430 a year. Someone said look at Grundy so I did. They Quoted me Agreed value of $30,000 at $258 a year. Yep I have Grundy

Re: C10 Insurance Opt

I was surprised to find out that my insurance company offered a "classic" policy. I pay roughly $50 a year (liability only of course), but I can purchase additional coverage if I so choose. I am likely foolish by not adding enough to at least cover what I have invested, but there comes a point to where you eventually would break even with what you pay out. I know my wife suv is about $1,000 a year (has constantly gone up each year and it is not 4 years old), and it is sickening. Since my old truck is only driven a few hundred miles a year, and is on yom plates, I will likely take my chances on it, and save where I can.

Some companies claim that a C20 or 30 is a heavier truck and will do more damage to another vehicle in an accident and charge you more for liability.

I don't own a vehicle valuable enough to carry more than liability on but when I insured my 71 GMC 3/4 ton the insurance agent told me that.

I've had Progressive on my car, truck and boat for years and do all my insurance on line. I've never met the person who is supposed to be my insurance agent.

I use State Farm, but Hagerty is a well respected company that insures classics reasonably.

Re: C10 Insurance Opt

Only thing I didn't like about Hagerty is they would not come off of the 5K a year mileage limitation. Grundy is not unlimited like the commercials use to say but they agreed to the mileage limits I wanted, and was a tad cheaper than Hagerty. I had some friends that could not get classic or collectors just because it was a commercial (3/4 ton & above) vehicle.

Re: C10 Insurance Opt

I have four classic vehicles with Hagerty
my newest 67 c10 resto-mod is valued at 100K with "cherished salvage coverage"
if it's ever a total loss...100K payout and keep the truck
I have 3 others as well

Your agent is the key to successful interaction with the insurance company
I have everything I own through a life long friend as my agent.
Any claim I have ever had is one phone call to him and it's good to go.

Re: C10 Insurance Opt

Grundy 72 C10 for $40k agreed value. Full coverage, no deductible. $116 a year added to my existing Grundy policy.

When I got Grundy for my collector cars several years ago I did the whole thing online, never spoke to anyone, sent in a few pics of each car. Insurance policy and cards were emailed a few weeks later

Have made 2 small claims over the years (windshield and fender), no hassle repair at any location I chose. $ sent to me electronically next day. I pay shop.
