Bug spray on late model headlights

Anyone tried this besides me? Spent some time cleaning up my 97 Silverado today. The mosquitoes were pretty bad here in NJ and hosed myself down with some OFF just after I was looking at my hazy original headlights.

I'll be darned but it worked and the headlights look much better. The rag I used had a lot of yellow residue on it. Tried it on the tail lights and again they look better and the rag had the same yellow residue.
