About Front Wheel Bearings on my 06

2 years ago I had a front wheel bearing go out and it cost me $450.. Then this last August my other front wheel bearing went out and it cost me $345.

Needless to say I wasnt happy as I have low miles on my truck and this last one went out at 74000 miles..

I was in farming country in eastern Oregon in a city called Pendleton at a Les Swabs getting it replaced for this last one and the Mechanic told that it is not a Chevy Problem any more than a Dodge Ford Problem ..It's a new design where the bearing is in the middle rather than on both outer edges like they used to be.. All the trucks have this same design,,. and 3/4 ton and 1 tons go out even faster..

Just thought I would share this because I was about to trade my truck off until I learned it really wouldnt help as the new ones have the same bearing and is still being changed out just as fast ..

I have also replace the left and right front bearings on my tahoe. the first one went out around 150 or so . then the other around 180? I bought the part online because thats the cheapest i could find around 245 with shipping. my tahoe now has 193k.

Re: About Front Wheel Bearings on my 06

I had to put one in my 2005 Sierra 4x4 I don't know where the hell you guys are buying them from mine was $130 from AC Delco.

Pretty easy to change too except it rusts in there so you have to air hammer it out.

Mine were like $140 with a two year warranty from NAPA. That's for a 3/4 ton 4x4. Maybe there's more material in the 2wd ones?

I would think it would be just like it always has been. Play in the wheel. Usually they will make a ton of noise first, in my experience.

Re: About Front Wheel Bearings on my 06

its a sealed wheel bearing... get over it. its also the hub and anti lock brake assembly. seriously its not a 10 dollar bearing /race from an old car.

they are about 130-150 bucks at my local independant part store and takes no more than 45 minutes to replace... the hardest part is getting the lock nut off of the cv joint if its 4 wheel drive. (and which one of my ignorant ass brother in laws =) took my impact without asking ...again!)

you will know its bad because it will make noise. it will make noise under no load and sometime with a load to the left or right.

jack the front of the truck up, and spin the wheel on both sides... a bad bearing will feel and spin funny.

this is a forum about trucks. trucks cost money. just like a boat (bust out another thousand).

this is not a bunch a chicks out to lunch trying to figure out how to divide a check 5 ways with each saying i only had a salad and a drink and busting out a calculator... holy crap!

now its friday and i have to start getting my drink on and get ready for some football... enjoy the day!

Re: About Front Wheel Bearings on my 06

They usually make noise when turning the wheel at speed..the wheel will also have a lot of play in it when its jacked up. I've replace both of mine..I don't mind the replacement. If you live up north, seems like the hub corrodes to the bearing and the last one we used a porta power to break it loose. I also don't like that after replacement, about a month later the wheels speed sensor in the new bearing goes bad and the abs acts up..now ya pull the fuse and deal with the light being on all the time..cheap replacement parts...

if you pull the sensor it most likely has grease on it... that will cause the idiot light issues...

simply remove the sensor and clean up the grease and into the bearing a little bit.... that has been my experience. but i was using ac delco replacement parts.

i only replace the entire hub assemble which includes the hub and the bearing. and 3 bolts it comes right out of the knuckle... i dont think you can even purchase just a bearing for the hub...

amen... most people get scared of things they dont understand. i gave a very laymen explanation of how anti locks work in a brake thead a few days ago...

it was more to ease peoples minds. and i took some liberties as well.

sometimes new is better =)
