Found this 1948 Chevrolet? Ideas of what it is?

Hi everyone,

Recently got this from an estate sale. Have yet to pick it up. I believe it is a late 40s or early 50s Chevrolet 3300?. Dual wheels, split windshield. The most unusual thing about it is that it has a large generator built into the bed. Appears to be a factory job. Generator brand starts with a "W" but is not a westinghouse, don't remember the name off hand. Any information about this vehicle would be appreciated. Has a solid body and appears very complete and original. Still not sure if I'm gonna sell it or keep it. Located in NE Connecticut. Would really like to know if these came with a generator from factory, and if the truck is worth anything to anyone.

Might be a 3800. I havent been out to see it in a few months. All I know is that it's about 3' longer than a standard cab pickup, with dualies in the rear.

Wouldn't come from the factory with a generator. Maybe a welder on an early hot shot rig??

Not worth anything at all. Ship it to me and I'll get rid of it for you.

Haha, couldn't get many good pictures, the forest has grown up around the thing, once I get it pulled out will post some better pics. My best guess is they used the generator to supply power to the house and outbuildings during storms. No idea when it last ran, and can't get the hood open (looks like a few engine parts hanging around the interior, which I hope are spares and not off the truck's engine)

Maybe a "Winco" generator?

from what i know, they were ordered w/o a bed ....

and whoever bought the truck would add their modifications to it else where later

On some big trucks a flat bed was a factory option.

Nice looking truck from what I can see of it.

Scroll down this page (first page is blank) and it will bring up specs on all of the 48 Chevy pickups and trucks. https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf

Page 58 should give you the info you need to figure out what model it is.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
