Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

I made a little progress with the repairs to the passenger side floor. I coated the inside of the floor bracing with POR15 and used weldable primer before fitting the patches. The after market sheet metal takes a little finessing to get thing to line up for clean butt welds. Once the welds are ground down the patches will blend in. After the patch work is done I plan on sandblasting the entire cab. It does not look pretty right now.

Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

Nice to see another NY'er here, just caught this thread and welcome to the board, I live about an hour from you in in Roxbury. Great project you have going on, I saw this too on ebay and thought long and hard about it, but realized I need to finish my K20 first before I dive into another project.

Also, right on about importing cars from other states, the best and only way sometimes here in the rusty north to find a classic car/truck. I looked close to a year to find a decent 67-72 4x4 and everything around here was rusted out junk. Finally found one in Nebraska and had it shipped in. Let me know if you need anything, I have lots of parts from 2 trucks I parted last summer.

Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

If this one did not come along I most likely would have gone out west to get one. I justified this one because I would have had almost as much into shipping one across the country as I paid and it had some very good/solid parts. Chances are that I would have had to do some rust repair in a floor anyway. SWB 4x4's are tough to come by too. I will keep you in mind as I go along and need parts. Have you posted any photos of your truck?

Very nice, Are you planning to restore it or running it as is? You just do not see trucks like these still being used in NY.

The parts get here in one day from NJ. Thanks! Hopefully I will be able to tackle the driver side this week.

Thanks, it seems to gather lots of interest locally, Lots of "truck guys" around here, most of them older guys who all say the same thing..."You just don't see those around here anymore".

I was hoping to use it some, and fix it up as I go, and as the $$$ flow goes.
Still want a shortbed 4x4 one day, but for now I will focus on the K20.

Good luck on your project, looks like your off to a great start

Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

I have not done much on the project in the past few weeks but I did go out and picked up the rest of the truck parts that is or shall I say was the “chum bucket”. 95% of the parts are junk but I will be using a few items like the roof skin for the cab lights and the non A/C stuff. I was planning on using my trailer but the DMV threw me for a loop when I went to reregister it. For some reason if your trailer registration lapses for more than two years in NY you have to surrender the plate before you can reregister it. There is nothing like trying to stuff practically an entire truck in the bed of another truck. Believe it or not there is a motor, tranny case, leaf springs, front and rear bumpers, bench seat, steering column, complete bed with tailgate, cab, hood and a few other things on the back of my truck.

Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

I was able to get some work done today. My OEM-OCD came out when I was fitting the replacement driver side floor brace. The replacement brace does not have all the features the GM ones did. So I sectioned in part of original one that had the factory embossments. Luckily that section of the original one was not in too bad condition. Yes I know, no one would ever notice, but I would.

I have a 110lb pressure pot and I am using fine black beauty. I’ve only used it to blow out the soft spots so far. I am contemplating sending the cab and some other parts out to be blasted because of the mess.

I agree, send it out... I blasted my frame and will never do it again! to much time, energy and a huge mess!

I had my cab, tailgate, cross sills, grille and some other pieces blasted for $375 and would do it again if I had to..

RM Lill out of Castleton blasts but I recently found out they do not do sheet metal. I am not sure who does sheet metal in our area. Let me know if you find someone. I may end up doing the bottom of the floor myself and sand the rest. I am also looking into getting an adapter for my pot to run baking soda.

Re: 1970 swb K10 Resurrection (AKA "The Chum Bucket") "Photos"

I picked up a set of ’68 corvette buckets for the truck. I will need to build a frame like the original truck buckets to mount these. Does anyone have detailed photos and dimensions of a truck buddy bucket seat frame?

are you going to do a frame or separate mounting brackets? I would mount them seperate like 69/72 buckets and add a console with cup holders..

I was actually thinking about using a frame and the buddy bucket center seat style consol. I like the option of the third seat and how they give a little more room for the shifter clearance. I picked up these seats for the center consol. Who knows in the end I may just run the original style seats.

Finally I find some fellow New Yorkers! Project looks great and nice find on your frame. I just started my build this year and currently have two k10s, one for my core foundation, one for parts. Like a typical NY project I am looking for some frame components, anyone have suggestions?
