Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Very nice. Like to see a write up on this. I know Factorystock has done this also. Looks like you had to space the clips out a bit ?

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Thanks !
Yes it was an challenge to make it right maybe twice and it ( Murphy law) would end up RIGHT ON THE crease line on the rim , almost .
On posting , where would I start it ?
Probably not on that link (I think you put here ? )

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

You could start a new thread . I feel a new thread would be best since its a new topic and there could be a lot more input available.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Hello,

Looking for 65 GMC hub caps....or near that era. I also need help with that size I need. I have no clips on my wheels...just the knobs that stick up to hold. 1/2 ton with 8" wheels.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you for all of the info and the photos.

Jeff ,
Try ebay , but you gotta know if its 3/4 or 1/2 ton size with the inner spring finger style . They made two sizes for springs or none .
20 years it took me to make up this used fair conditioned set when later I found full sets online (ebay) kicking myself now ...
Heres an used set like mine ( not perfect ) http://www.ebay.com/itm/GMC-hub-caps...VW~8o~&vxp=mtr
Also you gotta know of this conversion page I put up last week about how to used these on 1981 8 lug rims .
What size are your rims ? Yours is probably 3/4 ton with "15 rims is my guess , not half ton .

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Aerotruck, related to the hubcap in post #47, got any pictures of what would have been on a Canadian 1961 GMC? Thanks.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Here is a close up of the hubcaps, I am not 100% sure they are correct for Canadian trucks but I'm almost positive since he has done a lot of work to get everything as original as possible on this truck. For some reason these pictures didn't come out as clear as they are, if you want a better copy just private message me your email and I'll send it to you.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Jeff is it ?
Ya those are the right ones .

You can find original(s) out there , hell I remember finding that 1960-61 GMC hubcap in OEM factory chrome ! ( that was 20 yrs ago, and I sent them off free to an GM trucks parts club back then .
Theres a few hand fulls of little suppliers that are hidden even on the net .
Last week I found and 1960 GMC cigarette light assembly with wire , light bulb socket and black and chromed button holder for under $40 at American Classic truck parts .
Another huge GM only truck wrecking yard is called "Toms Truck Wreckers" in Miami Oklahoma and he has an **** load of great stuff - I just bought an front bumper and tons of other GMC 1966 parts !
Tom is unloading , and has sold 180 whole trucks for very cheap ! .
If you find an set of caps you can retro fit them to moderen rims if you follow my post that I posted here .

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Unbelievably valuable thread for a new 60-66 owner ('65 BBW SWB Custom Cab truck). My truck has slots on it now but I believe it came with chrome caps (havent had a chance to inspect the SPID), but the truck is beat/rusty, I think the painted caps will look better.

Anyway, where did all the pics go in 60-66's original post?

Pictures would help greatly. But I'm going to say they've been been repainted. They are either white with red inserts or chrome with red inserts . The Bowtie itself was always the main color, chrome or white .

Tom Myers Truck Parts in Miami Oklahoma - 918- 533-3871. Not sure he's still in business, there was a big auction at his place last spring. But definitely worth calling.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Great thread with tons of info! The pics in first page are huge on my comp and by time I shrink the page down I cant really make out text well so I may have skipped over info. What is the last year that the "clip" style hubcaps were offered for 3/4t?

Also does anyone know of a company doing a plain no logo clip style cap for 3/4t? I'm just brainstorming at this point and dont mind running without caps once truck is together but I find myself not loving the GMC logo's offered in most of these caps but dont want to have to try and cover up logo or anything so a cheapo repop with no markings might work out better. I have had 0 luck for a 3/4t size only 1/2t stuff in plain centers.

Re: The Chevrolet and GMC Hubcap thread

Ok so I sold my 62 4x4 Burb a while ago but really looked high and low for some parts that I was going to use when I finished it.
Now I have some rare NOS items and am looking for values and if best to sell here or through eBay. Some of the hardest things for me to find were the 4x4 62 caps and the extinguisher.
Any thoughts or advice would be awesome.
I’ll just toss in the photos.
Thanks,
Burbluv
