Stock you may be OK....I went with the 255lph for my cam'd/big head 6.0L... vs the 190lph

Thats more expensive and less powerful than the generic 255's. You'll outrun it in a heartbeat.

I stay away from Walbro stuff anymore. I've been thru 2 of them in the past.

The bosch 044 makes more noise, but is a far more capable and durable pump.

OH NO, one bad review of arguably the MOST common aftermarket fuel pump on north america.

Most 255's fail because of the way the were installed. I'll forego that conclusion with Wasted, as he and I have had some discussions before that lead me to believe he's not developmentally retarded. That being said; 80% of failures are from a bad mounting location, poor filter choice or poor filter location, improper sump, improper lines, bad wiring, or just poor pump selection to start with. The 255 WILL get overrun at a certain point. Wasted's setup would probably be putting a 255 through the paces.

Yes, a $90 performance part could fail. Mine hasn't and I pretty much ingnore all common sense in terms of keeping the tank full, checking my filter etc. Mine gets loud if the tank is really really really low and it has to suck hard, but thats not the pumps fault.

I kinda feel like "run a 255, until the day comes you need an A1000".

Good call. I do fuel and air system design for an OEM for a living...so being developmentally retarded would be a problem


I will say that I've got an in tank Walbro GS340 on a 540 rwhp sprayed 6.0 LS I built, and it's been holding up fairly well.

However, I am not running and A1000...I wanted more flow capacity with E85, so I'm running a Fuelab Prodigy 41402.

The a1000 should come with a roll of dynamat and earplugs. It sounds like a damn tattoo machine in your ear.

I ended up getting the 255. If it fails we will look into something better. I've got an idea brewing in my head to take care of the fuel slosh issue that the stock tank offers. I am a GM technician and today I was looking at a fuel pump assembly from a truck I removed a few day's ago. If your not familiar with them they use a built in "sump", if you want to call it that. Basically it's just a little tank that traps fuel in it, so when fuel is sloshing in the main tank the pump wont run dry. I ended up taking the assembly apart and removing the sump. After examining it for a little bit I think I can make something similar to it that will fit in the stock tank, and use in conjunction with the stock sender. I'm pretty sure most of the failures of these (and any) external pumps are from running dry. In theory this should take care of the concern. In reality, I'm probably overthinking this and it will be a waste of time......

Sump would be a determined low point for fuel pickup. Its sort of like that but what your describing is working as a baffle for the fuel slosh.

You can also run tank foam if you don't mind losing a touch of capacity, and it requires no modding to the internal tank.

The thing is tho, internal pumps don't fail from going dry all that often since they are usually cooled better while submerged, and spend less time actually running low. They still can, but the need for a Sump is for externals. Baffles don't hurt an external, but are meant to benefit the internal pumps.

I install walbro 255 pumps all the time, at least one a week some times 3 on the same car with the only failures being old pumps with a lot of usage. I run a universal inline 255 on my truck with 0 issues.
