Opinion on wheels for 86 Suburban

Hi everyone,

I think I’m ready to ditch the stock look on my 86. I want to do a 2” drop all the way around and I’m thinking of going with the new Halibrand turbine wheels by Holley. What do you guys think? Should I do 19 or 20’s? Anybody that has experience with wheels this size on a suburban please chime in!

20's as tire selection is wider, and cheaper options are available.

Get the 19's if they fit what your doing exactly, and your ok with tire cost.

This is the stance I’m going for, only I’d like the back down a little more so it sits even. Never been a fan of the rake look.

I like these.

I am not a fan of Big Rims.

These have that Rally wheel look / More than
Some of the other styles
that I have seen at the truck shows.

OR!

Do I go with the Vision wheels in maybe like a 16 or 17” wheel so I can have a little more meaty tire look? I could do custom center caps with a bow tie in the middle.

Using the offset calculator, I think I could easily go with a 17x8.5 wheel with -6 offset and a 275/60R17 tire.

The calculator says it should like the image below vs. the factory 235/75R15

Forgot to add the image! Anyone with experience in wheel offsets want to chime in? I have no idea what I am doing. Haha.

No other opinions, eh? Anyone running 275/55r17’s they can share photos of?

Re: Opinion on wheels for 86 Suburban

Those halibrand turbines look pretty cool! I like the Detroit Del Rays, but maybe the 18's would look cool, give you a little more tire. The 20's and 22's with rubber band tires is just a pretty common look these days... not that it looks all bad when the rig is salmmed, but 18's with a little sidewall and sitting nice and low would be cool. Plus your ride quality would be much better.

Another idea, what about some cool slots with some meaty All terrains, but lowered... See this thread for a cool 60-66. Sort of a dirt track inspired look... its unusual, but might be cool!

Yeah slot mags has crossed my mind several times...I definitely want a meaty tire look, so that is why I am thinking of going with 17 or 18's now....

Re: Opinion on wheels for 86 Suburban

There seems to be more rims selection in the 4.75 bolt pattern. Has anyone used wheel spacer/adapters to use the smaller bolt pattern?
