Zinc emblem repair

Last piece of frame off rotisserie resto on dads 72 Suburban was a broken GMC emblem from the rear barn doors.
Original was broken in 4 places and had missing mounting pins.
I couldn't find a reproduction and rare on forums.
Found a supplier in Canada who was able to braze and re-chrome.
Not cheap but it was the last item required to complete the project.

Re: Zinc emblem repair

I'd bet that was a high stress installation. Good work.

Re: Zinc emblem repair

I havent put the stamped nuts on it yet. I was just trying the fit. When body man did the rear door bodywork he asked if I wanted the holes filled.
I always intended to fix the emblem so I left the holes.in hindsight it was a big risk since the pegs were broken in a couple of places so location was critical.
The repaired part fit right in ! I couldnt believe it, I had visions of elongating holes etc etc. Final step is to fill the letters. The original was black fill but I'm thinking about red just like the fender emblems. Stay tuned.
