Gear Selection

I know this is a little premature but I'm going to ask anyway

I've got a LQ4/4L80e setup in my garage that will hopefully be going in my '67 stepside this winter. I've just about decided how I'm going to "build" my setup as I've pretty much talked myself out of a turbo. I currently have a TSP Torquer V3 cam that I may or may not use. Definitely going to do something with the heads to bump compression. Also leaning towards a 5 or 6-speed instead of the auto. Basically I'm looking for a nice NA combo that I can jump in and drive wherever.

Now on to my question/dilemma:

A buddy of mine did some work on a guys truck recently and received a nice posi carrier and gear set. He said they both look brand new. I want the posi unit but he wants to sell it all together. The gears are 4.11s. Would that be too much gear for a streetable NA setup? Currently running a 255/40-18, planning to go wider but not really much taller.

First time fooling with trucks as hot rods so I don't know what to expect. I know the difference in Mustangs between 3.73s and 4.10s is pretty significant in terms of street driving and shifting to make me favor the 3.73s but that's with a 26" tall tire.

Thoughts?

Re: Gear Selection

I've read post on ls1 tech where people recommend the 4.11 with the 6 speeds

Re: Gear Selection

Thats a pretty short tire. I would think 3.73/3.42s would be a better choice. I'm running 4.11's with a 31" tall tire with an A6. It winds up really quick.... I would look at some RPM calculators and see what numbers they spit out.

Re: Gear Selection

The 26" was on my mustang. 275/50-15 MT DR. Really liked that tire, 3.73 and 5-spd. 4.10s with that tire wrapped up a bit too quick, especially 1st gear and a 150 shot.

Current tire on the truck is 28.5". Probably stick with that size to up to a 30" I think. Depends on if I stick with 18"s or not.
