What Plug Wires

I am running TBSS headers and have some boots touching the header tubes. What wire set are you guys running? I think I need something with 90 degree boots.

Doesn't MSD 32829 have formable boots?

What I bought for my DTY 324 headers at least......

Haven't put them on yet

You're running HEADERS not manifolds, right? If so, you don't need 90* boots, you need 45* boots otherwise the wire will be pointed toward the valve cover too much. I'm not much more help than that, but I need the same thing. Like the other poster showed, some wires are bendable, which is probably what I'll end up with unless this thread produces something better.

Re: What Plug Wires

Firecore 50 wires. They are expensive, but they will put any boot you need on them (mix and match if you want) and make them to any length you need.

MSD wires are JUNK.

I'm starting to think most wires are junk. I've had MSD burn out, I've had Taylors seperate from the boot, I've had no-name silicon ones seperate from the boot. I've been told Granatelli are higher quality, but god-awfully pricey.

Re: What Plug Wires

The firecores boots are bonded to the wire jacket, so they are really resistant to pulling the terminal off of the wire end.

Lots of drag racers use them, and remove them after every pass to check plugs, and run them for years at that rate.

They also seem to snap onto the spark plug and coil better than the MSDs too. A nice crisp click.

Re: What Plug Wires

That would be nice; I hate wiggling the boots after every hard pull.

BTW.....Me thinks our F-body needs to run ya next time I'm down in IL for some tuning. I'd like to see how it does vs your blazer.

Re: What Plug Wires

Thanks guys for the replies. I am going to use some Taylor wires that it got today. They still touch the header tube but not as bad as the stock ones did.

Re: What Plug Wires

Not here to "rain on your paraide"....but you do not want the boots even just touching the headers! I plan to run an MSD set on mine....listed above, with bendable ends. A couple of the stockers still touch the headers , on my truck, but have steel sleeves on them? That makes it pretty damn hard to burn the boot. I have clearance the header(4 spots), & think that the MSD wires will fit my ride. I heard 45 degrees down the line....but it should be a 135 degree on the boot bend, to fit that (If I am thinking right). I am sure that the MSd's will fit my app, & I have not had any issues with them, or the Accel wires? Longhorn

Re: What Plug Wires

I'm running tight tuck sanderson headers on my 5.3 and touch the boots. I probably have 5,000 miles using the stock wires with the factory aluminum boot sleeves and i installed aftermarket fiberglass plug wire protector sleeves (available in various colors). I slid the boot off the wire on the coil end, slid the fiberglass sleeve all the way down onto the start of the boot for the spark plug and reinstalled the coil end boot. Some of my wires are touching the header tube no matter what i do and no issues of burnt boots or misfires. Good luck, Brian Fuller

Wink Re: What Plug Wires

I have MSD on mine. Hawks installed them. But after a 3300 mile trip they are still working fine.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

"Sir why does your car smell funny?"
"I hit a Skunk"
...
"Whats in the duffle bag?"
"ummm...the skunk?"
"ok, thanks for not leaving it on the road"

The "our" would be my associates, the ones with normal jobs who don't spend all day on forums with YOU PEOPLE.

We've got an 02 WS6 which was the vehicle in question. We also just started up a 74 'Maro, one of the ones with the goofy nose. That ones probably a little fast for ya

Re: What Plug Wires

Oh. I see. Sounds like some race car chit. Well I don't know why you'd think my truck is anything of note? It's just a crusty old family cruiser...pump gas, leather seats, ice cold AC, 2 baby seats in the back, grocery getter....

...But I guess if we're racing other peoples' cars, I have a few "associates" of my own with some nice cars...all local buddys of mine. Probably nothing for your rubber nosed rocket though...

From time to time, the wifey, says "I smell a skunk"....I have to walk downstairs, to see what my sons are up to? Back up stairs,(after a while) the old woman asks me , what is up with your eyes! Oh nothing babe, just a little tired Longhorn

Its a mutual labor-in kinda deal. One guy has more finances, I have the most time and fab skill, another has the most connections. Sure, the titles are in different names, but to a certain extent, its a "Team" effort.

You know my '66 can't run ya. The 02 Ws6 would be fair, hence my mentioning it. The 74, no that would be mean....it doesn't have a motor.
