Can you help ID this GMC hubcap?

I picked up what I though was a 68 gmc c2500 cap today at a swap meet. But the opening measurement is 7 3/4 like the older 1/2 ton caps that I have (55-59). I thought all 3/4 ton caps were 8 3/4? Is this off a van or some sort of odd ball? It measures 10.5 across. Thanks!

Appears to be the "clip" style, so opening is smaller.

I know its clip style, but i though they only made 3/4 ton caps in clip style with a 8 3/4 opening. Did they make 1/2 ton clip style caps?

I think you have a 1/2 ton one there. Most pictures I have seen of clip hubcaps is that the 1/2 ton clip style measure 7.75 inches on the back, while 3/4 ton ones measure 8.75, like you say.

This link is of the 60-66 caps but I am sure it is the same idea.

Yes they made both nub and clip style caps for half ton.

On 1/2t it depended on the type of wheel. Some optional wheels still took clips type because they date back to before nub types.

Re: Can you help ID this GMC hubcap?

Thanks for the help guys. I did not realize they make 1/2 ton clip style wheels in 68. Its a cool wall hanger at the very least!

Re: Can you help ID this GMC hubcap?

The standard 15" 6-lug wheels had nubs, but if optional tires in larger diameter were ordered they would be the same wheels used dating back to the clip days. So GM adapted the caps to fit. You can see a lot more meat between the cap itself and the inner circle. On an 8-lug cap, which all were clip-type, you would see much less meat since the 8-lug pattern is larger diameter
