Project "Getting out of hand"

Well my father ordered this truck and took delivery of it in Feb of '71. I was born in June of same year. It spent its life in Scottsdale Az. In 2002 my father said he was going to sell the old green truck as he called it. I told him "hell no! I had plans for that truck when you where dead"! He looked kinda shocked and said well i guess it's yours then. He Trailered it out to me here in Oklahoma shortly afterwards.
It ran and drove fine but i goobered that up awhile later. He ordered with NO a/c, NO p/s, NO p/b,350 3 on the tree, leaf spring rear. Making it hard on me now getting it the way i want it. I originally was just going to put a TBI and 700r4 in it and call it good until later and paint it. Well during the tear down and rewireing, its getting out of hand. It turned into well as long as i am this far i might as well do this, well now that i am here i should do this etc etc etc.
I am posting a pic of what it looked like when i got it back it 2002. I will upload more pics tomorrow of things that have been done to it and parts going in it.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

Well the truck sat at my friends shop for some time while i gather parts. I finally just said the heck with it and started gutting the cab interior. I got inside and outside wire harness and started taging wires on what they go to and where they need to be routed.
Pulled the heater case out because i intended to add a/c, pulled brake/clutch pedal assy to put in just the brake pedal assy. Removed back glass because there where rust stains coming from the seal. Pulled from glass to make sure it wasn't like the back glass as far as rust issues.
While i had that out my friend said he would paint inside the cab for me while i had it down. Traded an Ipod video for the paint and started sanding the insideof the cab.
Had another friend come out last saturday to replace the rockers. Didn't look too bad but finding more rust than expected for a truck from Arizona. These pics are of the pass side.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

As he cut apart the drivers side it got worse. The front cab piller was almost totally gone. I couldn't believe it. Well we broke for lunch and Talked to Mike from musclerodz. Super nice guy and he said he had a piller patch that he had for his blazer that i could get from him and he would just get another one later when he got going on his. So I got the patch from him tonight and should have that on saturday morning, while my wife is at her sisters wedding. That i got out of to work on the truck! WOO HOO! Prioritys man!

Got the front end off last saturday, all we have to do is take the door back off and replace that panel.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

Few years ago i put the Champ 500s on it and did a cheap lower job by cutting the front coils. Still dont know what i am going to do with the rear end. It has leafs and i don't know if i want to go with a 4 link and bags, or dearch my springs or buy lowering leafs and shackles. Any opinions would be great. I have no idea of the axle ratio. the RPO code just says locking diff. I figure 3.73 for 4.11 or something close to that.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

Here are some of the parts I have accumulated for it. I have all new clear lights all the way around. New headlights with replaceable bulbs. new dizzy, wires. Had an intake for the vortec heads i was using and ended up with a set of Trick flow heads and Crane gold series rockers , that the intake won't fit. Oh well traded the intake for one that would work. Ceramic coated headers and aluminum reverse rotation water pump. Aluminum trans pan and valve covers.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

Well my buddy got the drivers cab piller patch installed today and patched the inside panel also. So now both rockers are complete and just need to weld up a few holes here and there and start putting it back together.

Re: Project "Getting out of hand"

Here a few things i got done. Finally had to break out the sand blaster and just strip under the rear window and drivers inner rocker and floor. Got it all welded and primered soon to paint the interior and start laying wire.
