Yeah, That makes sense. Your saying that the BJ in Las Vegas and Orange County wouldn't be as good as Scottsdale? Why is that?

I'm sure the cars and trucks at each of the auctions are nice, but it seems like some more "special" vehicles come to Scottsdale (low mlieage originals, factory concepts, etc.) that don't show up at the other sites. Granted, I haven't been to any of them, but just from watching them on tv, it seems like the vehicles that run across the blocks on Thursdays and Fridays in Scottsdale would be the primetime cars at the other sites.

That's pretty interesting. I still think it would be pretty awesome to go to one of those just to look at the cars. And it looks like they got a pretty good set-up with other big business's like Mother's and some of them other big guys.

I'm going to guess that despite paying too much for that truck, I doubt the new owner is a "fool". If you can afford to drop a buck-fitty on a ride, your probably no dummy when it comes to financial concerns.

Man i couldnt agree with u guys more. $143,000 for that truck was way to much. I was out there this week and looked at alot of trucks and there was a lot of very nice vehicles. Dont get me wrong that was a great truck and who ever built it should be very proud, i just cant imagine dropping that kind of money on something that i had nothing to do with building. i know from reading everyones threads on here, what we could do to our own trucks with a bank roll like that. I say it aint worth it if you havent scraped, begged, sold and borrowed to get what you need and then put the time, sweat, blood, tears and love into something you did yourself and then sit back and look at it and say i did that.....

Sorry for the confusion. I clicked the link and saw everything about that Merchevy but the sale price,I guess. I was probably already loaded for bear after seeing a truck went for more as much as two Vettes,even at BJ. I guess if I could fill out my wish list of every 55-59 I've dreamed of I might add that one to my corral.
The $143k one is a beaut! It's mix-match,but hey! It's a custom and it's all Chebby. I see these buyers as fools too,personally. They are missing out on the whole experience of creating a fine piece. The only credit they can take is,"I bought it". Wow,how fulfilling is that? Even those who have it all done by others can take credit for the concept and hopefully some input through the process.
I see this stuff on BJ like this '55 and,if I like it,I get inspiration to do it myself. We hear,"You couldn't build it for this money",all the time,even at BJ. I don't care. I "want" to build it. That's where different strokes comes into play. But,I'm sure I could build that truck for a lot less than $143,000 and that's why,IMO,I think many of those buyers are fools. "I want it now" costs ya,as it should. If I was rich and saw that truck I'd go and have someone build it for $100,000. That's wise money management.

They showed the chassis cam on it...I was shocked to see what looked like MII in the front and leaf springs in the back. On that kind of build you would expect at least a 4-link and before they showed the chassis cam, I was thinking it must have 'vette suspension all the way around. Go figure...Guess it boils down to a couple of guys with bucks who both wanted it...inject some alcohol to get the money flowing (BJ registered bidders drink for free) and voila, 150K '55 Chevy p/u.

The $143,000 55- 56,57,58-59 truck could probably be built for around 50k or less using new aftermarket parts. I like the Mercedes conversion, its alot nicer than the 143,000 dollar one, and the suspension is probably better done as well. Gosh for all here that don't like the ride etc of a stock truck, that mercedes is just the ticket and its a lowered custom, whats the complaint???

whatever. still a fool in my eyes, regardless of how big his corner office is. guess his financial officer pulled the trigger on that, right?

however, it was a great investment (ahem). hope he's not telling my Edward Jones advisor where to put my money.....

Because the stance is awkward, the wheel offset is ugly, the choice of a donor is offensive and the interior is an abortion. You may not like our taste in trucks, but at least they are still American when were done with them. Other than sheet metal there is nothing classic about that thing.

The Mercedes truck at least has a lot more work in it.

The $143k truck even has "budget brand" Boss wheels on it.

A rod selling for that much should at least have some one off wheels...

Well yeah drop the Mercedes part of it, I still like the interior, since I'm not a fan of lowering I agree with the stance etc. I'd like to see it sitting at stock height with okay wheels etc.

I don't really care for the Mercedes truck or the $143K truck but apparently someone did. You gotta keep things in perspective, though. That $143K might mean less to that buyer than the $6K I paid for mine did to me. Depends on how much "play money" you got, I guess.

I just had to reply to this...I have been to Barrett Jackson several times. The one at scottsdale always has car/trucks that "set the high side of the market", and this truck is very nice (however, I think a bad choice of rims"). It looks like a very well done example of a custom hot rod. Was the price paid too much? Anything is only worth what someone will pay for it....one mans " not so much", is another man's "wow that is awesome" (new spin on old adage).
Be thankful we still live in a country where folks have the means to pay that much for what they want/like.....don't ya just love America? (not sarcastic)

im with you jmr5. nice truck, but not my cup o tea. as for BJ, I'd rather cruise the parkin lot than spend the $$$ to watch rich folk fight over something they'll seldom drive.

i guess you can tell i'm a little biased... I look at it this way - I really loved chevs long before BJ came along. The only thing that has changed after they came along is that now all the old junk i have always loved has tripled in price. While I watch it in HD like the rest of y'all for some good entertainment (and astonishment at what folks will pay for stuff) - I still don't think it's done much for the grass roots of the ol truck hobby.

My 2 cents only, and that's about all it's worth.
