250 carb choice opinions 2bbl vs 4bbl - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a stock rebuilt 68' 250 installed in my 63' pickup.
S10 t5, 3.73 rear, HEI distributor
About to install Langdon cast iron headers and a Clifford water heated intake.

I think I've narrowed my carb selection down to a Weber 38/38 2bbl or Holley 390 4bbl.

This is just a cruiser, I won't be shifting at 5000rpm.
Got OD for the highway.
Just looking for response off the line and to not run out of steam at highway speeds 60-70mph

Purchase price is negligible.
I'll need an adapter plate and a throttle cable for both.

Thoughts??

I am running 350cfm 2bbl Holley on top of my Cliford. It came off of a Mustang .

Do the weber, will be a pain in the butt to tune. But once it is you'll get better mileage and it'll make a nice power increase. Holley is good for flooding engines out. lol Nasal leakage is their best.

Have a Holly 390 on my 250 in my wagon, on a Clifford intake and headers, for the last 4 years with zero issues. Starts no problem and the choke works great. Plenty of power to cruise at 65 and will still hit it to over 100.

I agree! Once you get them right they are ok.

I decided on the Weber 38/38.
Found a company on eBay advertising a kit for a jeep 258.
I called them and told them my info, they said they would rejet for my application.
They're also sending along a DVD for tuning the carb. $260.
Seems like a good deal.
I'll post results once up and running.

Yup, much better than a Holley 390 price. They used to be around $320 and now are well over $450. What a rip off.

I run a 390 holley with a offenhauser and hei it runs fantastic the only thing is it took a little tuning certainly a learning curve.another option is a edelbrock 500
