Re: The build date project

Does anyone have a 71-72 Chevy or GMC built in September AND have a protecto plate? What letter code does it have for the build month?

Based on the last picture in post 355 it appears my build month decoder (post 311) may be wrong for 71-72.

72 chevy
2Z140943 = 02/08/72 (post 356) think it's day 08

70 chevy

72 GMC

Re: The build date project

Would post a pic of my build sheet from my 72 but not with a full vin #, is that even helpful in this thread? Have my dad's 72 protecto plate. Truck was totaled years ago and long gone will post if useful.

Depending on how many digits you want to share, yes, it could still be helpful.

I'm curious about a September protecto plate in particular. We don't have any examples on our thread. I want to know if a "I" or "J" was used for the build month.

Feb 15 to be more precise. Thanks! That helps confirm the date in post 356.

I'll try to get my list updated today.

Re: The build date project

Our list is growing (and the hyperlinks consume a lot of the allowable characters per post), so I have moved the 72 chevy list to a third post.

I'm now updated through post 365.

GMC on post 63
67-71 Chevy on post 64
72 Chevy on post 65

1B646308 = 5/71 (post 365)

2S202498 = 6/72

9T837073 = 06/01/69 - 06/19/69 (post 365)

8A115646 = 10/12/67 - 10/31/67 (post 365)

8F133264 = pre-01/16/68 (post 365)

Re: The build date project

8A124970 = 12/67 (post 366) little bit of a guess on this one, but thinking that is a "D" for the build month.

7S127823 = 12/12/66 - 12/31/66 (post 366)

7B150267 = TBD (post 366) last 7B on list

I appreciate you posting, but I would still propose that we only include VINs and dates that add new information. In other words, we could have deduced the same build month for that vin just by looking at the list. Additionally, character count limits are something I'm trying to keep in mind also. So if ok with you, I think I'm going to leave that one off the list.

If the rust that's under my 68 is any indication of those trucks
And it spent 3 years upstate before coming west.
I'd bet they're gone after a life in the Salt

Agreed... And not many other years.

Probably due to the winter salt on the roads as KQQL IT said. I grew up a few miles from the Tarrytown plant. Toured it when I was 18, but by then it was building econoboxes...
