Looks like you've jumped in nicely. More photos of interior and under the hood please. We are photo junkies you know.

Plans?

Re: Recent purchase

427 ci bbc, th400 transmission, 3.73 gears, posi rear.

Body is good and drive train is good. Here is my wish list in no order.

I want to change paint to red or blue

Interior is kinda ugly. I will change that.

Drivers side has lap belt only. No passenger seat belt. Want to do 3point.

Could use more power.

Gas tank is in the cab, would like to relocate.

Has ac but it doesn't work at the moment. Want to fix that.

Man, I love the brown, plus it's not a color you see often. The 427 should rip unless there are issues. If you are not an engine guy find a good one and have it looked at. If it's setup right with a TH400 and 3.73 posi it should smoke those rear tires.

Three point belts aren't a hard change, it's on my list as well. Other than the repairs you state the only thing I can say I'd do is change the altitude slightly and drive her all day long.

Here's the truck box.

My photo of the interior won't load. Says missing security token?

Re: Recent purchase

OK, liking this truck even more with photos. On the bed it looks like you might be missing a few supports and the wood (of course) but those are easy to come by. I suggest Mar K manufacturing in Oklahoma.

I also agree with you those seats and door panels have got to go. Those are not tripping my trigger in the least. Under the hood she looks decently sorted but only a good overall review can really answer that question.

Overall, I think you have a super nice truck that just needs a bit of TLC and of course $$ to make it great.

Re: Recent purchase

Man that is the bomb ! Congratulations ! One step at a time is my motto. Install a original style seat would be a big improvement. Three point belts is a easy diy job, couple hours total. I just did it myself. The 427 just puts it in another dimension in my opinion...

Re: Recent purchase

Welcome. Awesome truck. IMO, that is too nice to repaint. Just get some 17 or 18" wheels so you can run 27-28" tall tire in the front and a 29" in the back and fill up those wheel wells! Then drive the heck out of your truck and enjoy.

Re: Recent purchase

A little lowering in front and back would improve the stance, my opinion.

The carb looks like a Holley spread bore, might be a 650. You have to remove the float bowls to set he floats on those.....
Holley made 650 and 800 cfm versions of those. If it is a 650, it might be a limiting factor in your performance.

Re: Recent purchase

So the old girl died on me at the pizza place tonight. Dead battery. Any ideas where I can start to look for an electrical drain?

I boosted it with our van and got home easy. But have to figure out why the battery was dead.

Re: Recent purchase

Diode problem in alternator is a common problem. A starter/alternator shop should be able to test it. Auto parts stores can also, if you get the right person.
How old is battery?

Re: Recent purchase

Get out your multimeter and select DC voltage. Get the engine started and while it's running touch the red lead to the large terminal on the back of the alternator and the black lead to ground. You should have 14 volts. If not, the alternator is not charging. You will need a load tester to check the battery.

Re: Recent purchase

Carburator is a holley 4160. Not sure the exact specs on it. Buddy if mine figures the vacuum secondary are not opening. That might explain why I think its under powered right now.

Re: Recent purchase

I have not tested the cruise control. I did see it on one of the column handles.

This truck is thirsty. I'm spending $20-$30 bucks a day on gas. And not driving that far. But I do accelerate quickly a lot. It sounds amazing. 2.5" exhaust w. Magnaflow mufflers

Re: Recent purchase

Carb number is on the air horn.
A friend of mine had a 650 Holley spread bore (mechanical secondaries) on a Olds 350. He took the secondary link off, to keep his MPG numbers better.
If the intake will accept a spread bore carb, I'd want a Quadrajet on it...
