Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

Thanks for the compliments guys!

I took a few pictures at the last autox event of the year. The truck ran great and felt solid. I might have some videos and even a few action shots to post later

Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

I did a lot of Auto-X back in the 70's with my 65 Corvette, but I bet you are having more fun than I did!!
I like the way you stuffed "enough" tire under the fenders and the mods you did to the body, what a fun ride !!

Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

One of my Christmas gifts was a used solid roller cam and valvetrain. The plan was to put it in a SBC for my '82 Z28, but the specs were slightly more radical than the solid roller in the truck. The Camaro has a 700R4 so I figured the newer cam would be a better match for the light weight stick combo in the truck. The truck has pop-up lifters so it was a pretty easy swap since the intake didn't have to come off.

Here is a short video of me driving the truck down the road after the swap. Nothing too wild as the engine would hardly even warm up. I even braved a bit of snow/ice on the driveway because real trucks should be able to handle a bit of snow.

The link bars are spring loaded so when the rocker arm is loosened enough to unload the pushrod the lifter raises up off the cam so the intake doesn't have to come off

Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

How much castor is in the front end?
Are those mid year Corvette spindles?
What brand lifters are spring loaded?
with a two piece timing cover that should be a "quick" cam change, unlike my last week project!

Never have accurately measured the caster. It should be slightly more than stock on account of the modified control arms.

They are standard stock style S10 drop spindles.

I believe the lifters are Lunati, but I bought them used so I am not entirely certain.

The engine has a stock style timing cover, but it was possible to drop the front of the oil pan slightly without breaking the rear seal

Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

Do you dress the truck with the fenders for car shows, and remove them for the autoX!!

I like it without the fenders!!

No, the fenders can come off, but I run with them all the time now. I just posted some new pictures mixed in with the old.

The fenders were added last winter to comply with new Goodguys Autocross rules that required fenders. Originally, the truck started off in 2009 with no hood or fenders. The hood was added in 2010.

Re: 47 Chevy AutoX Truck

Tyler

Is the rear suspension just the simple single pivot "truck arm" style with a panhard bar and a the coil overs and sway bar?

I had not seen this thread, but I had seen a video of it and thought it was super cool.

Yes, it was simple design and fabricate with materials on hand, and it seems to work well.
