Glad to see you are OK, Joe. Look at it this way, now is a good time to upgrade some of what was there (cowl hood and billet grille come to mind).

"What happened?"
This stupid a$$hole pulled out of a parking lot when I was about ten feet away from him. Then he got out cussing me, calling me stupid, saying that I had plenty of time to stop. I had to call the cops and stay as far away from him as possible or I would have had to call an ambulence too. It took all I had just to keep my fists out of his brain.

His insurance finally got back to me and claimed liability. The adjuster came out this morning and estimated $3,697 worth of damage. I don't know where he got that figure, but hey, who am I to argue?

Now the problem is, they want to total it. And they value it at $4,800. She called the auctioneer that they use and got a $850 as-is value. So basically they are offering to total it, but I keep the truck and they give me 4800-850=$3,950. And I can fix the truck for less than that for sure, but should I be happy with this. Because I definately think that I can prove that my truck is worth $5,500 at least. Especially since I picked up an Autotrader today and found an 84' with a 305 for $7000. Whereas, mine is an 87' with the TBI350 swb and just as clean.
Tell me what you think.

Depends on if their willing to go off of actual market value or not. I know my truck would probably be worth about 4k dollars atleast since it has a few dents and cracks in the paint. But the tax value is only like 1700 bucks or so. But I paid 2,200 bucks for it when I got it with a toasted transmission, bad radiator, dent in the cab, and a broken door handle (both from a fallen tree limb over winter)

if they total it out and you buy it back, or keep it wont that technically turn it into a 'salvage' on the title?

btw - sorry about your truck.

I think if the vehicle is older than 7 years, it can't be changed to "salvaged".

Joe, if you retain the salvage and it never leaves your name, it will not have a branded title here in Texas. Do you have reciepts for everything on the truck. Anything like tires, maintainence, etc. to raise the value of the truck to keep it from totalling. Most insurance companies will total the vehicle at 70-75% of the retail value of the truck. Get the value increased, and then let them pay the 70%. I would then get the truck fixed on your own, and pocket the extra $$$. BTW, I think I have a core support up here that will work.

If the insurance total losses it out and you buy it back then it will NOT be a salvage title. It becomes a salvage title when the insurance totals it out and then they keep it. They can't keep it in your name, so during the change of owner it is salvaged. But since you will never have taken the truck out of your name, nothing can occer to the title. Or atleast that is how it is in Missouri.

They came and wrote me a check today. The deal was that I retain the title-No Salvaged Title-and they gave me $3,967. If I had convenced them that is was worth more, then they wouldn't have totalled the truck and would have just given me the value of the estimated damage=$3,600. Since, I can probably fix the truck for under $1000, I am not complaining at all. Now, maybe I could have got more out of them, but I felt like that was more than ample and in fact, I will probably switch to State Farm because of the way they handled it.

While I gotta replace and paint some stuff, this is what I plan to do. I will keep you posted and tell me what you think.
Billet grille
cowl hood
And I think I'm gonna go ahead and paint it BABY BLUE METALLIC.
I need new tires and I don't want to put new tires on these crappy wheels, so I was thinking about the Cragar Street Stars.
And is anyone selling those that ya'll know of?

Kevhill85 and Jonboy, give me your number and maybe we will get together. And all of you guys thanks alot--This is the best board by far.

Isn't it amazing how with a little extra money you can find all these things you have to have.
