Re: To tighten a tilt column?

Dragging up an old thread, but i have the same question. I recently bought an early 70's van tilt and it is loose in the mechanism as well. It there a worn part that should be replaced? or does it just need an adjustment?
Is there a good thread on this subject, did some searches, but nothing i could find.

Your issue could be a broken part, a worn part, or just bolts that have worked loose.. You won't know until you open it up.. For me, the procedure is too long to post here.. Forgive me, I'm 78 years old.. Servicing/repairing the tilt steering column is thoroughly covered in section 9 of the GM service manual.. I keep harping until I sound like a broken record.. If anyone is serious about working on these old trucks, a set of instructions is the first tool to reach for.. Service manuals of each year of '67 - '72 Chevrolet and GMC are readily available as free pdf downloads...

Re: To tighten a tilt column?

You will need a method to pull the tilt pins. Typically is is just tightening the bolts. A little green loctite thread locker will help it from returning. only use enough to see it on the bolt.
Truck will seem to drive like new when it's repaired.
