How much fore/aft wiggle room in cab?

My '59 is painted but at a standstill because I can't get the fenders on. I have the hood, doors, and inner fender on but when I place the fenders on, it wants to hit the door. I'm wondering if I loosen all 4 body mounts, can I possibly slide it back a hair? How precise are the bodies to the frame? Are they always in an exact spot? I bought shims for the front mounting points but that didn't seem to help.

If I ever get past this point, the truck will be on the road in no time. Help!

Jeff

Moving the cab won't fix it you need to loosely bolt everything together including the cote support get the fender lined up to the door and work your way forward

Re: How much fore/aft wiggle room in cab?

hmmm....well, not sure what to do now then because the doors are as far back as they will go and the back of the fender hits the front of the door when I hang the fender. Just trying to think that maybe if I can scoot the cab back a hair, it will all fit.

Maybe I'll park it in the lake behind my house for a little while and see if that will fix it.

Re: How much fore/aft wiggle room in cab?

My recollection from when I set my cab is I had about 1/2 - 3/4" cab movement. Front radiator support has a little more play too. Between the two maybe you can get the gap you want. The factory assy manual shows the frame bracket hole is about twice the diameter of the bolt.

Re: How much fore/aft wiggle room in cab?

Thanks, Orrie.

I have everything loosened - core support, inner fenders, etc but I don't feel any slide in the core support besides just tilting it. Maybe it's all the way forward, I'll check again. All I can think of now is that the cab is a little too forward. How much room do you have between the cab and the front bed panel?

Re: How much fore/aft wiggle room in cab?

The left front cab mount has basically no movement; the other three have enough to adjust the cab somewhat. The core support should have quite a bit of adjustment with the nut plate setup. You may have the core support pulled down tight on the frame horns with the mounting bolts (where it needs to be shimmed) and this is what is making you think you are out of adjustment. Make sure the metal spacer sleeves were in place when you mounted the support. When tightening the core support bolts and you see the core support pulling one way or the other, shim until this doesn't happen. It should just be resting on the frame when everything else is adjusted. Also, as mentioned above, the core support is the last thing to be tightened as you work your way forward. Keep us informed
