I am wondering if a 4L80E behind a LS engine will fit under the floor or if a tunnel needs to be fabricated. I have a Direct Sheetmetal set-back firewall installed and the front suspension is No-Limit Wide Ride, so I have a little more room but I'm still not sure if it will fit.

Go take a look at my build 56 pro touring (I think). We are putting a 4l80e behind a ls. Fits ok. We are going to set the engine back 3 inches and will need to drop the engine 3/4 inches (for handling purposes). Does not look like we will have to refab the tunnel.

What are you doing for engine mounts? Do you have a build on this site?

I think it's like running a Turbo 400 in that it depends on exactly how high and where you set the engine in.

Are you running that much H.P. that you need a 4L80E?
Those 80's and a bunch larger than the 60's.

My thought was that a 4L80 would work pretty much in it's stock form with maybe just a shift kit for the fun factor. I am figuring on roughly 450 hp to start and possibly adding a turbo later or a stroked LS3. Once more power is added, i will have to build the trans a little more.

A 60E would probably need to be built right from the get-go.

I will be using custom engine mounts that I may fabricate myself or the tubular ones from progressive automotive.

I do not have a build on this site.

You are right. The 60 needs to be built and you always are a little sketchy about it lasting. It weighs about 60-80 lbs less but I heard that they are OK up to 450.

The 80 is bullet proof as it is. Build it a little bit and it will handle what ever you throw at it, with in reason. I dont ever want to worry about it again. That is why I went with a 80 and a for 9 from curry. Drop the hammer.....every time.

Also, I checked out your build. Awesome.

I am also using the No-Limit Wide Ride on mine. I have a Direct Sheetmetal set-back firewall/floor, so I have a little more room than the stock firewall/floor allows.

I am running a 4l80e with a 6.0 ,but I have a chevelle front IFS so I think that it moves the engine lower than the stock location

The engine mounts that I am using wont work anymore. When you move the engine back that far you dont have that cross member to go down to. I was thinking about attaching to the tube that comes from the cross member for the bottom a arm bolt and then supporting that to the frame. Just a thought.
