Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I installed my new DUI distributor Sat. Put in new plugs gaped at .050 and readjusted the timing to 14*BTDC . Total advance is 34* at 2500rpm. Also changed the vacuum advance to ported and reset the idle mixture with my vacuum gage. Truck is more responsive now and just seems to run better.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I went and pulled the wheels off of my great grandfather's 70 stepside we have had in storage for years. Figured with being furloughed from work right now it gives me something to do. Had the tires removed and since 50 years is hard on the wheels I'm sandblasting and painting to freshen up. I've got some extra tires that hold air and will have them put on the put on the truck and load on a trailer to bring home. Fun project I've been looking forward to for a while and putting off almost as long.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Hoping to get the tires mounted by the weekend and bring the truck home. Truck is going to need a good bit of bodywork. It was the last vehicle my great grandfather ever bought and he left it to my sister upon his passing. She wasnt old enough to drive so dad bought it from her. He drove it until about 92 and parked it from a flat and needing carb rebuild.

No pictures, but I installed front disc conversion with power booster. New tie rods, upper and lower ball joints and stainless front brake lines.

Still need to adjust the alignment and get the leaks stopped!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I've been up to my arm pits in the heater/ac parts lately. Cleaning and more cleaning. I made a trip to a jy today scouring parts trucks for things left I might could use. They're picked pretty clean and they haven't added any more 67-72 trucks in several years. It's getting harder to find used parts.

That's for sure. When I got my truck there were three yards close by that had many in them. Now they are mostly gone and anything left is picked clean.

Replaced the grill emblem. The original was missing the center blue portion which I had a piece of cardboard with painters tape. It didn’t look bad but always kinda bothered me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Painted my front inner fenders a couple days ago and mounted the driver's side and fender today. Worked on the right side wiring some and the starter heat shield. I would have been surprised if I bought one I didn't have to modify.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

More like what did I try to do.

I have aftermarket wheels on my truck but I have original wheels, hub caps and lug nuts. I needed new tires so I thought in the spirit of originality I would put new tires on old wheels. I have a friend that works for a tire shop so I called and ordered 5 tires

Brought wheels to shop and dropped them off. An hour later I get a call that they are split rims and no one in the area would touch them.

Oh well, took the aftermarket wheels off and had them mounted. I will start looking for a local shop that will do them.

For now, after fixing brakes and carb, I just want to drive it

Finished removing all the old brake lines and pulled the front shocks. Stopped after that because it’s gotten summertime hot here. 98 yesterday and 95 today. My fans just were not cutting it.

bill3rail,
Hmm, let's see: Pickle fork, air hammer, WD40, and a BFH. Looks like front end work to me! Great work.

Gonna send you a PM with some questions if you don't mind.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I have spent the last few weekends on my bed, but happy to say the bed is now back on the frame. I have a 3.5/5 drop, and I am hopeful adding my rear tank and cab/motor will help the rear end drop down quite a bit more.

With many thanks to member RodnRudy, I have the correct water pump studs for my new fan and fan clutch set-up. Took a little cruise to deliver a dresser and it just felt so good to be cruising with it again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I brought it home today after sitting in storage for almost 15 years. It's been off the road since 92. Surprisingly decent condition. Already ordered my rocker panels and cab corners as well as a new tailgate and front bed panel as this was the worst condition parts. Rockers I might not need as they look decent but it was while I had the chance and its thru my work anyway. Will be a fun project that will take much of my time and more of my money lol. Currently furloughed from work so I have time to play and get the cab right. Have to get the windshield out and see how bad it is overall it has a hole just below drip rail on the drivers side.
