Question

I was also under the impression that 72 was the first year for windshield mount rearview. However, my brother has a 68 short fleetside (used to be mine ) that has the mirror on the windshield (just noticed this recently). I was convinced someone had swapped cabs, but the vin tag in the door jamb doesn't look like it's been swapped. Any thing else that would determine the difference in years? BTW, there's no evidence that the mirror ever mounted above the windshield(i.e. no holes or patchwork, just virgin steel)

blazerholic the interior rearview mirror was a option in the first few years of production and many basic equipped trucks did not receive them or the passenger side sunvisor. The later model 72 mirror was added. You should be able to look at the roof of the 68 and see 3 small dimples used to show where the optional mirror could be installed. All 72 came with windshield mounted mirrors, 71 and earlier above the windshield with the mirror. With all of these being over 30 years old you can expect to see many differences or changes done by previous owners normally.

Talking just when you thought you knew it all...

Thanks for the info Paul. I never would've guessed the mirror to be optional, but considering door windows and more than one seat were options in Blazers, I guess that's par for the course!
