Facebook Marketplace finds
I know FB is not popular with a lot of you, but times have changed and we might as well "suck it up buttercup". There are a lot of good finds being ignored by us on FB.
Here is Cheyenne Super for sale. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...3222521364919/

Additionally the popularity of one over the other one is really regional. Your area may just be more biased towards facebook. And as far as people to why folks may be avoiding the posting of facebook ads that may be simply because the facebook listings do not lend themselves to being shared on other formats such as our great forum. It is part of their strategy to keep people herded up and not wandering off to other places. You may be able to see 10 times as many but at what price? Have you seriously considered the answer to that question?

As far as a need, as I stated, I think a lot of people avoid posting in the CL thread just because of this, people getting their panties in a wad over FB. I don't understand the concern over a separate thread. If people don't use it, they don't use it, so be it.

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
My grumpyness comes from being old enough to remember when there were really only 2 places to look when buying vehicles. The Sunday classifieds and the Nickle ads (Which came out on Wednesdays). Now there are at least 100 places to search. There isn't really 100 times more vehicles available so it's just a 100% increase in inefficiency. It has taken a lot of the fun out of the search for a deal.

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
I have to agree with DavisChevy, I have been using Facebook Market place regularly as my go to place to find what I am looking for. Let me tell you how it worked out for me today. I was looking at a Facebook group that is just for 67-72 Chevy and GMC 4x4. people showing their rides some selling parts, some selling trucks, some just sharing their builds and stories.
A gentleman posted a couple of pictures of a original paint and straight 68 K20 long bed stepside truck. He stated that he had this truck for a long time and did not know what he was going to do with it. I posted back that I thought the truck was really cool and that if he ever thought of selling the truck to let me know. Thirty minutes later he sent me a message on Facebook messenger and we struck up a conversation about the truck. not doing to well the last few years and his wife would like him to get rid a few things if possible. His story is he purchased the property eight years ago with several vehicles on the property including this 68 K20. He said that his health has been not doing so well the last few years nd his wife would like him to get rid of some of the cars on the property. We came to an agreement and I made a deal that was both fair to him and good for me. About three weeks ago I was on my lunch hour looking through Facebook again on one of the groups and someone posted that they were looking for a Cheyenne K10 for a project. I reached out to the gentleman and told him that I had a project truck that I might be willing to sell. He sent me a message asking him to call him so I did. We made a deal on the truck in about ten minutes and the next morning he wired me the money. I am not saying that Facebook is the end all be all, its just another avenue that sometime works. Just like planting the seed of interest to the farmer that has the old truck sitting in the field.

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
all I'm saying is at least on this forum we should post all of the outside ads in one thread per series and type..
of course individuals are free to pick and choose the ad formats they open, trust, buy from, etc. one of the most irritating aspects of this forum is the random scattering of information.. as I posted above two separate facebook threads were started only two minutes apart.. there is definitely an advantage to searching multiple ad formats, all of them would be the most conclusive.. but dividing ads for the same series and type of vehicles by whether they're listed on ebay or bat is unnecessary..

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
I just recently joined facebook because everyone was telling me that is the new place to go for parts, etc. I have found that to be true, at least here on FL. CL sucks anymore for anything decent, especially vehicles. They now charge for those ads. It's mostly buy here pay here crap. If you look at my fb page it has absolutely nothing on it. I tried to avoid it at all costs, but since I got my '69 from there I've been able to find quite a few parts.

This site is great for NOS stuff, but my truck is past the point of getting any of that kind of love.

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
Maybe we should start a new thread Craigslist, Facebook and more finds.
Make it a one stop shop place. And if you don’t look at Facebook for instance don’t open that particular post. Definitely more than one place to find our stuff these days

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
I like this idea. I agree with consolidating, but mp links would be nice. Craigslist really went dry because everyone sells on mp now, but those like me that don’t have fb won’t see those ads. And I think most people respect the thread subject and don’t post mo links in the cl forum.

I share your emotion about this whole thing, because I too have experienced the evolution of advertising old cars. Hemmings and The Arkansas Democrat Gazette classifieds were always near me. FB as a whole is a cesspool.

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
Just a thought - I'm sure the mods wouldn't mind modifying the title of the existing CL thread to "Trucks for sale on CL, FB, ebay, etc"
I've never heard anyone complain about the occasional kiji, FB, or even ebay ads posted on the CL thread. I've personally listed many ebay ads and auctions on the CL thread and never heard a peep. That's my 2 cents - I do see value in keeping as one-stop-shopping in a single thread with all ad sources, but however we move forward, great idea by davischevy to bring this up!! |

again, the purpose of the search is find trucks and parts, not specifically to patronize a particular format.. if you want to lead others to a potential deal, the only reason for posting them, make it readily accessible then..

Re: Facebook Marketplace finds
Im not sure whats wrong with starting a new thread. The large majority of Craigslist ads in there are all expired anyway.
