Factory 57 hubcaps fitment on different steel wheels ?

Well guys I did a dumb move. My 55 has cucv 15x8 steel wheels with the 4 nubs . It's always been a little " naked " I wanted to put some 55-56 caps on them and then yesterday at a swap a guy had a set of brand new 57 caps I snagged for 200 bucks. I got home and realized they don't snap over the nubs they are too small and the factory trucks used clips. Ugh ..... is there a aftermarket wheel such as us wheel or the like I can buy to retain a deeper dish style wheel and use these style caps ?

Most aftermarket suppliers hubcaps only fit their wheels. Be it Ford or Chevy that has been an issue for guys who bought aftermarket caps and tried to use them on oem or other wheels.

The best option is probably to hunt down a set of 15 inch oem wheels with the clips and paint/powder coat them and install them. The clips were used into the early 60's.

Re: Factory 57 hubcaps fitment on different steel wheels ?

I have focused on the wheels with the 3ea hubcap nubs and have been successful in getting that style of caps to fit my wheels. I am using the 55 chevy car poverty hub caps on my wheels for my 55.5 truck

With lug nuts on does the cap sit tight against your wheel? I ask this that if so probably it can be done.

I have successfully placed my 59 GMC caps on 1988 - 1998 K10 oe steel rally wheels (16"). I added the 5/16 bolt threaded holes.

I did not want to and probably you do not want to disturb the wheel so you probably want the clips on the lug studs. Things can be done.

dennislbrooks, nicely done!

70ssclone, are you determined to use the reproduction caps? I have "4 nubs" wheels and I am using stainless generic caps. It took some time to find an actual stainless set but they exist. Of course I had to find an "internal clip" style for my bed mounted spare. But they look close enough for me.

The internal clips are available from multiple aftermarket suppliers. Drill n tap or drill n rivet, they're not too hard to install.

Maybe the OE caps will cover enough of the external nubs to look ok?
