05 ext tranny issue

Not sure if this is the right place for this cause my brothers vehicle in question is a 2005 Cadillac Ext truck. Well his truck will not go into gear. He can start it and that's about it. He said it all started when he was driving it it seemed to have less power then the the next day was fine. Then a day or two later seemed like it had less power again and right when he pulled up at home it would not go into any gear. It starts but will not go into gear. One guy said it could be some vacuum issue? Can it just be something like a solenoid issue or computer issue? Also started having a very high temp on the gauge but has plenty of coolant. I guess that model has the all in one thermostat inside of water pump. So any of u know if it could be tranny or other issue causing the vehicle not going into gear?

Re: 05 ext tranny issue

Check the transmission fluid level.

A '05 Cadillac EXT (Escalade) has a 4L65E & is electronically controlled, A vacuum issue will not cause this.

To me..."will not go into gear" means it has park & 6 neutrals....Is this correct? If no park....Check for transfer case issues.

If fluid level is OK & no reverse means the unit needs to come out & tore down, Reverse is 100% hydraulic/mechanical.

Re: 05 ext tranny issue

He means placing the shifter in any position results in nothing. No reverse, no third, no manual low, ect.

It makes a difference in diagnosis.
