Hey Sodly,

Funny you should ask, I have it scheduled for next week. I have a friend who is experienced in taking these campers off. I have been waiting for him to have some free time to help me out. Saturday, the 9th of April will be the day that we pull the camper off. I'm really excited to see what everything looks like underneath.

In the meantime, most likely this weekend, I will be removing the inner wheel tub drawers, the mounting bolts, water, electrical, and gas lines that are attached to the bed and chassis, so that removal of the camper goes smoothly on the 9th.

I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures throughout the process. Any tips or advice before I move forward? I know the bed will be dusty and I have thought of giving it a good wash down with a hose, or blow it the best I can with air, but I'm not sure which of the two is most aggressive.

Re: 1966 custom camper & alaskan camper survivor

Probably no harm in doing a full wash down with dish soap, warm water, and a soft brush. Blow it out before and after with a yard blower. I did my low miler original paint deck this way without issue. Super high, focused pressure in either air or water could lift otherwise solid paint.

Here are the results:

I didn't notice this written on the old belt the first time I went through the glove box......

reads: "This belt came with the truck. Replaced at 11160. July 27-84"

Not sure what to make of that. Pretty much either the truck's odometer had already rolled over by 1984, or the think had only 11,160 miles in 1984. It currently shows 12,094.0 Mysterious.....
Your truck looks great! Keeping it all original like that looks awesome!

Thanks for the help and support guys. It helps motivate me knowing that there are people watching the thread and waiting for updates. I hope any pictures or details I post will be of help to someone other than myself.

More to come this weekend!

Hey Murdoc have you seen this polished Alaskan? Looks like a lot or work but what a result!! Yours is already half way there (I mean the paint's nearly all gone).

We are definitely watching Murdoc! Let Brennin or I know if you need a hand pulling the camper out. Just noticed yesterday that the original paper that they used to line the bed with was still visible in one of the pictures. Very cool!

First time the tailgate has been up since 1966.

It look a while to get the hinges loosened. No dents though, just surface rust. Would like to see what CLR could to for it.

Finally without the extended bumper..

Good thing they put those wood strips down first. I'm sure that helped preserve the floor. Aside from several drilled holes, the floor looks to be in almost original condition.
