10.5 FF 14 Bolt Limited Slip

I am currently starting a rebuild of a 1978 GMC K25 that spent the majority of it's life in the desert SW. It was run hard and put away wet so to speak! The engine, trans and t-case were all replaced at some point, and the replacements were all cracked so most of the driveline went to scrap. I am parting out a 2003 Silverado 2500HD and am considering putting the 8100 Vortec (496) in this truck as I have a Dana 60 front to replace the Dana 44 front that came on it. The 10.5" 14-bolt rear should be more than adequate for what I will be doing but I would like to put some type of Limited Slip in the 14-bolt to replace the GovLoc (worn out I might add) that is in it.

I am wondering what experience some have had with aftermarket LSD carriers. I do not need a Detroit Locker for what I will be doing but will need added traction that an open diff cannot deliver. Plus the 496 has way too much torque, if there really is such a thing! Thanks in advance.

Tom

Trutracs are great. I wasn't aware that they made them for the 14 bolt. If money was no object I would go E Locker or Air locker.

Thanks! I have not blown a factory GovLoc but have witnessed other do it, including my son (I told him not to drag race my truck)! I have heard good things about the TruTrac and sounds like a good route to go!

Personally I like the Govloc. It performs great in stock vehicles. I've only seen one broken one in a 10.5"/11.5" and it was thoroughly abused. It's hard to tell if it's worn out without taking it apart.

I blew a Gov-Loc right through the case just driving at freeway speed. But that was on a 12 bolt. I think the design on a 14 bolt is a lot stronger.

Re: 10.5 FF 14 Bolt Limited Slip

Have had TrueTracks front and rear for several years in a Toyota and recently added one to the front of my Chevy. Very happy with them. Can’t tell they are in there except when I don’t get stuck. Also no silly clutch packs to wear out. Same basic design as used on military Hummve’s, so that should say something.
