Hello everyone,

I have a few questions that may have been asked in the past. I am restoring my 1971 Chevy short/bed. I have everything off the frame now and I am cleaning and painting it. After looking at the frame. The lateral bar between the frame near the back crosses at a diagonal. Is this right? OR is something bent?
Also, I pulled the cab off with a lift. Can 6 guys lift a cab off a trailer back on the frame or is it too heavy?
Thanks for any info. I really like the board and look forward to reading and participating in it.

That is right with it at an angle. It looks wrong but it's not. Your track bar bracket comes off of that also so that is where you want it. I would hope that 6 people can lift the cab, 4 should be plenty just eat your wheaties

Is this the bar you are asking about? I noticed that yesterday too while working on these frames. Both bars on the frames are at an angle like Ram-Man said.

I've unloaded a cab from the back of my truck myself with no damage and no lifting devices... but... it's a bad idea to use less than 4 guys to do it.

two strong people can do it as long as the cab is gutted, myself and a strong friend carried my cab from my truck to the side yard--about halfway there we were wishing for more bodies, after about 50 feet, they start to get real heavy,lol.

Yeah, I was wondering if that bar was to be like that or did the guys mess things up but yeah the bar on mine is on an angle

That crossmember that is pointed out in the pics above is suppossed to be like that, it puts the panhard bar at the correct angle to help square up the rear end.
