no hazards or brake lights

Hi all,

I have a 90 burb. I noticed some time ago the hazards were not working. no big deal, never use them. When hazards are on, turn signals didn't work either figured it was the turn signal/hazard switch in the column.

Recently the brake lights went out as well.

Replaced the brake light switch, same problem. read that the hazards/turn signal switch inturpts the brake lights and is a common problem for not working brake lights.

Replaced the switch. same problem.

What else can I look at?

Thanks

Re: no hazards or brake lights

chase the wiring. I Think Hatzie has wiring diagrams. I know on my truck if I have the 4ways flashing, they go solid when I hit the brakes, so they're tied together.

Re: no hazards or brake lights

Did you try wiggling or replacing the round sliver thingy in the fuse block?

Re: no hazards or brake lights

2nd the thought on the silver flasher units. You have one for hazards and a different one for turn signals. Possible the hazard one went out years ago and explains why those didn't work.

The fusing for the running/brake lights isn't always intuitive. Running lights are often tied to the same circuit as the dash lights. Brake lights can be on a different circuit. This means you can have two fuses feeding one bulb, just different filaments in that bulb.

Might pull/check and reinsert the fuses. Corrosion can build up in there and make for bad connections. Not common but cheap to check.

Possible the turn signal switch in the column is bad.

Double check the long connector at the base of the steering column. They can come loose.
