1950 Chevy 3600 Project

I am starting a project on a chevy 3600 pickup. I still have the split rim wheels on it. Does anyone have a good source for wheels for this vehicle or should I find tubes for the split rims?

Also the gas tank has alot of stuff in it - is it recommended to replace the thing or does these cleaners and sealers work.

if i remember right innertubes are the only way an older split rim will work. i can't say the tank can be cleanedout my 53 sat for 10 years and the varnish was like putty. i dought a cleaner could go thru that, but who knows what wonder chemical are out there

I would just get a new one. They are only 125 bucks at brothers right now. If you replace it you'll never have to worry about it again. JMHO

One word of caution. Don't ever inflate a split rim that is not in a safety cage. They outlawed those rims because they can kill you if they are not put together and infalted correctly. Especially if they are old and have been rusty around the lock ring. Get it done at a tire shop.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Project

I'm glad I found your string while trying to learn more before I start working on my 1949 3600. It is a very original, low-mile truck, and I want to avoid changing it, because it looks great on the original style tires and wheels, but I am hoping someone out there knows a good source for correct tires (type and size), and where to find the tubes and liners. Thanks

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 Project

speaking of split rims i had a friend in highschool that had one let go on him. he was in a wheelchair for life. i saw an example of how powerfull they are on tv they could lift a compact car 8 feet off the ground with the explosion... not worth the original look if you ask me i choose walking....
