That is such an awesome picture!!! I don’t actually live in Farmington I’m about 12 miles west right on the border to the Navajo nation off of 64.
The drive from here up thru teec nos pos, and Kayenta on to monument valley is a nice drive. Sometimes we go up thru aneth and come in that way. The mesas above the San Juan coming from aneth are pretty spectacular. They look like a rattle snake weaving around the river.
I've stayed in Farmington, to see Chaco and Bisti Wilderness. I'll keep in mind the locations you describe.

Here is another picture taken by grandpa.

Thanks. What was different for me, was stopping so much to begin with. How many times in my life have I zoomed through here, wishing I could. I actually didn't walk much, getting too lazy. I used to be a gonzo mountain biker, and recently able to do fairly long hikes.

If a machine can have a soul or spirit, Blue Cloud was happy to get out. And thanks for the comment (including everyone else).

Now I'm going to post the pictures taken with the iPhone. In some cases, it does better than the Nikon. There was something I wanted to take pictures of, here is only one shot:

Re: My remote camp trip near Monument Valley

Question: What is your model/make of your tool box? Might you have a link? I didn't think you could get a toolbox with the in-bed spare tire! Love to have the width of it (since perhaps with my Rally Wheel it wouldn't fit).

Thanks!

Oh what a cool experience that had to be - rollin in an old truck, camping out of the back & beautiful scenery - thank you so much for sharing with us!

I got it at Lowes, it's a Craftsman that measures 12.5". My previous '69 came with a "regular" size, so I know what you're talking about.

Before I get back to the regularly scheduled program, I saw this in Bluff.

You are very welcome!

Back to first night camp, I was hoping for a sunset. The hood is ajar because I have a battery disconnect switch, last thing I needed was a wire that came loose and drains the battery.

Driving out.....

So that took awhile, all the stopping for pictures. I was thinking what a killer rally stage this road would make. Moki Dugway is next, do you see the road going up?

I recently saw a post on Fascistbook about this, half the people said they wouldn't drive this because it's scary. Try it in a 53 year old pickup with solid rear axle, and no booster drum brakes without ABS!

Re: My remote camp trip near Monument Valley

I hope the hodgepodge of photos out of order isn't too annoying. This is Muley Point, end of the road. Thought of doing some rock crawling, but slapped myself.

Nice sunset, over Monument Valley.

Leaving in the morning.

Made sure it was in gear and parking brake was engaged.

I went back down Moki Dugway, this is the Flat Earth view.

The washboard made it fun.

After gassing up in Bluff for $3.799/gal., this is the top of Comb Ridge.

Cool camp spot on a knoll, if it wasn't blowing a gale like it was.

[/url]

The other end of that road comes to this highway.

Checked out Butler Wash Ruins, then came back to the valley and continued just a little ways north, then turned around.

You can see that cut beyond.

I have a few more pictures, so I'll be back!

What great campsite over Monument Valley. I wondered about wind but I guess you lucked out. Boy, to think you have to go places like this just to get away from people offering to buy your truck . Washboard... I noticed the great example shown in the picture your dad took. You'd think they'd have fixed that by now

I know right? I've never had anyone want to buy my truck, but I read some have but their trucks are much nicer.

Welcome Old Blue K20!

Hey Kurt, thanks for the inspiration! We’ve had Covid in our house for a little over a week now… luckily no major symptoms at all but we’ve been in various stages of “quarantine”. We decided to take a road trip today and get some fresh air and vitamin D! Our Yukon isn’t a cool as your truck but it was a great trip none the less. We went to goosenecks and had a picnic style lunch before heading up Moki Dugway…

Went through the pictures and edited a few more, not in order now, but could make a game of which day they are if you're really bored to death.

Down and out Dodge.

Last night, when I got woke by rain at 2:30.

Okay, done milking this out!

All good if you're tired of posting pictures. But if you're not, we'll keep lookin' at 'em. Like a giant playground. I particularly like the one where there's a little blue truck in the middle.

I was going to post, "By the way, nice pictures" (in an overly understated way), because I don't think I have yet. Now I'm saying this should be thread of the year! Why don't you go camping somewhere else now?
