A pleasure to look at, too.

Those are absolutely gorgeous! I've always wanted a flatbed, but I have no reason whatsoever to justify it. Guess it's the wannabe farmer in me.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

Is that dually a C30 one ton model? Do you think a regular long bed would fit on that? It would make a kick ass pickup truck.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

thanks guys... here's the written rundown on the dually.
started with a 65 c-30 with a really rusty cab, an 87 1-ton dually rollover that was an auto trans and a 66 bbw air cab from a half ton. used the frame from the 65, the front disc cradle and rear suspension from the 87 (everything bolted right up to the 65 frame except switching for staggered shocks). then used 66 cab and clip from the half ton.
70 model 350 4-bolt, flattop and rv cam. holley pro-jection and a unilite, factory power and air options and 805 box.
cruises at 60 mph at 2800 rpm, so i think the auto trans rear is slightly taller than the old manual. and it runs on big michelins but i still want to install the nv 4500 with the captains hyd. clutch (soon).
has a huge tow pack out back with 9000 winch built in. jerks anything i've ever wanted to move on my trailer very easily.
oh yeah... the bed is off a 50 model with a bunch of old running lights

i will try to get some pics together the next day or so.
and thanks again... clem

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

I was driving my 66 3/4 ton daily about 100 miles-it was getting pretty tired in the engine compartment/department so I switched off to the 1ton panel-it's a beast, but it's still fun to drive-both are manual steering and drum brakes, 4speeds, no radio, just the engines for my music.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

This is a GREAT thread. Don't drive everyday but gets used regularly. Just finished a suspension upgrade and rides like a newer body-on-frame SUV. Like what was said, if you can, some newer upgrades make a BIG difference in drivablility. Would do another in a heartbeat before I bought a new one.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

My 65 is my daily driver, and was also a daily driver for both of its previous owners. I bought it about a year ago to replace my 2000 s10, and it has been my only truck since. Makes it difficult when I need to do work on it (when the wiring harness decide to go this winter I had to do a one day rewire of the whole truck). Previous owners put in a 350 small block and 700r4. As well as power brakes/steering, so it drives great. Only thing I had to do before the girlfriend was ok with it being a daily was add seatbelts, oh well.
Way cooler than any conventional car, love the looks it gets. Most important part in my opinion for it being a daily... a good radio!

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

My 66 GMC has a 250 inline that replaced the 305 big V6.
A 3spd manual trans and it's a column shift.
I'm building a new chassis to replace the old one. Upgrading to trailing arm/coil springs from the old leaf setup.
When the chassis is done I'll move everything over from the old chassis.
New chassis has a Pontiac V8 and 4L80e trans with a 6 lug dana 60. Disk brakes etc..etc..

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

Some days I don't go any place. and Ive got several to drive. However my rough & ready 66 GMC gets used the most. hauling Wood pulling trailers. Its a stock 250 factory granny 4 speed Lb fleetside. Im gonna take it apart this summer put a stepside bed and 5 hole disk brake front end ,dual master cyl & 5 hole rear end from a 84 truck. I want a bit taller rear gear. It will still pull with the SM 420 Muncie granny low. the GMC,s rear leaf springs make the five hole rear swap easy. also I add a 60 thru 62 heater. I just don't like the 63 thru 66 heaters. and the way its attached under the hood its in the way. It appears to have been a afterthought poor design. and they don't keep you very warm. Maybe ill install the bigger 3 flange exhaust manifold from a 292 & HEI ignition. The truck already has the big radiator. If it didn't I would change that . No such thing as too big a radiator.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?

Almost have my '66 up to DD status. However I did have my '67 as an only vehicle, aside from my shadow, for 7+ years with anywhere between 15-50mi. regularly

-New wiring harness- it pays off in the end. There is nothing better than not being able to blame it.

-Power brakes aren't required, but help in traffic.

-Manual Trans-not required, but helps with gas

-new/good quality seat belt.

-approx. 3.73 or lower rear end. I did 4.56s for years.. loud and slower.

Just IMHO.

The Pontiac engines swap in and look like they where born in there. I installed a 301 poiniac & auto in a 71 Cheyenne once. Great little rig used less fuel than the 350 it replaced
