Sbc engine towers

So I read where the towers are different for the 63-66 SBC unless they are the 6cyl. mount. I had a set that were in my 63 and they were welded to the frame not using any of the holes. So I swapped a set in from the 67-72 era and they mount t upper frame rail but the bottom hole is sitting half off the crossmember. Was there a different mount used in the 63-66 range ?

Re: Sbc engine towers

There was only one difference in the 63-66 frame stands. 230, 250, and all sbc v8s used the same stands in the same location. The 292 straight 6 used the same driver's side, but the passenger side is different

Re: Sbc engine towers

Somewhat related I think is for putting a v8 in a 60-62 is to use the 67-72 towers because the 60-62 frame rails are shorter than the 63-66.

Found it:

So, if you tried using 67-72 towers/perches on a 63-66, it could be they would be too short.

Re: Sbc engine towers

Oh, and one more thing to consider is use a set of 73-87 C20 Engine mounts - yes, C20, not C10 - because of the height of the frame rails.
I'll see if I can find that thread, but many feel it's a safer mounting system.

Re: Sbc engine towers

I compared the tower I have in there now to one I took out which I think were 292 mounts . They are similar but the 292 is a tad longer and a little more straighter than the 67-72 which I think would all bolt up .I did read somewhere in my search last night that the drivers side will work then just find a pass side the same .I think I did find a set down in the for sale forum. Heres what I pulled out 1 on the left is drivers side. Well OK the lower 1 is drvs.
