Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

If between those 2 wheels I'd say front. Can you notch the bed side to clear the caliper or does it need a lot more room?

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

I'm afraid I would have to pass on both sets of wheels. I would go for some torq thrust or some steeles with babys and rings, depending on the color and look of the truck. but it's your truck go with what you like and don't look back

I have not done much on the truck the last few weeks. The nice weather here means yard work, I have a 10 acre propriety half of which is grass its keeping me busy. No tub for the truck so far, I'm just not going to be able to go as low as i wanted but i may change my mine later when it all together. I'm looking at buying the headers and fuel pump for the 5.3 conversion very soon.

Took the Belair out for a new season of cruising and car shows. I have to do a couple things to the car, rear pinion seal, new carb kit and tune up.

Yeah I'm about to take out my 55 for the summer also. The wife has been hinting its time to go cruise for the summer and stop working on the truck so much.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

Thanks guys, I drive it anywhere I can, its still a work in progress. I installed the "home depot special" insulation yesterday, peel-n-seal and from bubble wrap, it works wonders, brings the temp down alot, quiets the car, it makes it more tolerable to drive.

Anyhow back to JML55 truck, those rear end pics really help put alot with wheel placement.

Hey 1-ton I got your PM. Let me know if its still available. Check you PMS for more details.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

Have not done too much lately, just got my LS1 F-body oil pan today (ebay purchase) I'm swapping the 5.3 truck oil pan for a Camaro oil pan, it will give me a lot more ground clearance. I'm not to happy with this oil pan, it's used but the price was decent. After cleaning it really good i found cracks in the bottom. Hope my welder can fix it up.

I modified the truck windage tray to fit the new oil pan.

I'm still waiting for headers to come in, hope to post more pics next week.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

Got the new headers a couple days ago. I really though they would fit perfectly but of course no, the driver side fit like a glove but the pass side hits the rear lower control arm mount. I also have to redesign the engine mounts. The factory Camaro mounts puts the engine about one inch to the right of the center line which doesn't help at all. I was thinking to extend the pass side pipe about 6" and move the flange down , that should move the flange away from the control arm and starter.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

Been working on trying to fit the right side header but no luck, it looks like I'm going to have to cut the collector flange. Got tired of that so today i decided to put the cab back onto the frame to see if every thing is OK. Well except for the right header I'm happy with the way the engine sit in the engine bay.

Nice and tight with those headers! Im getting ready to sit my 5.3 in my 59 that has also been camaro clipped. I dont know if you mentioned it but what vehicle were those headers made for? How close was the truck pan to the ground?

I'm using Eldelbrock 65762
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ED...5&autoview=sku
Like i said earlier drv side fit great, pass side need modification. The truck oil pan was below the crossmember about 3in with only about 4in clearance to the ground. So i when with a Camaro 1998 - 2002 oil pan now the oil pan is about 1/2in above the bottom of the crossmember and it about 7 - 8 in off the ground.

Re: 55 2nd serie GMC

Small progress lately, i have been working on the cold air intake tubing and air filter box. Trying to fit the filter box on the left side of the rad. I though i had it under control, made a carton box prototype and cut the sheet metal, when i realized that the hood tilt hinge kit was in the way, so back to the drawing board.

Sent all the front grill pieces to the chrome shop today.$$$$

Well with the MAF the filter is about 10" long so i thing it will stick out to far. I'm going to try on a 45 degrees angle with redesign air box it might clears the hood hinge.
