TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

On my 67 4wd short bed with a 350, where should the TH350/NP205 cross member be located to put the transfer case shifter in the proper location?

Measurements and pics would be great...and advice.

My truck is a factory 4wd, factory V8, factory short bed. When I got the truck someone had swapped in a mid 70's 350, TH350, & NP203. So there are a couple extra bolt holes from all the swaps. I have a 205 and the original cross member set with skid plate from a 70-72 to put in.

I'd like to end up with the transfer case shifter in about the original position and have enough room at the engine & firewall for a HEI distributor.

Thanks.

Re: TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

I looked through the assembly manual but didn't see anything helpful

Re: TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

In 67 there was no 350/205 combo available only a 3speed/t221 and sm420/t221. Both of my trucks are sm465/205’s so I’m not much help otherwise.

Re: TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

What 57 said ^^ you will have to run with it and bolt everything in, clamp the cross member where it falls and use the holes in it as a template

My 72 SWB truck is (was) a 350/350. Will see if I can get you a measurement from a common point on the frame. Maybe shackle hanger rivet or something like that.

Re: TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

If I remember right I think my ‘72 has two sets of holes where the transfer case crosmember bolts up. I would assume since mine is a factory 465 truck that the opposite set of holes would be for the TH350. I too will see if I can look into it more tomorrow.

Yes, I know what was original but long gone. Hopefully the measurements from another year with work.

Thanks to all

HEI distributor can work but will be really close on the firewall. Possibly look at an HEI with small cap, and separate coil pack. It will make things much easier.

Here are a couple pics. Measurement is from center of rear rivet holding shackle hanger on. A little blurry, awkward taking shots under the truck holding the tape and phone. Hope they help.

Re: TH350 / NP205 Cross member location

These frames are not that hard. Have drilled a couple bolt holes in mine, 3/8" up to 1 1/2". A bit less than $10 should last 8 3/8" holes. That said the upper frame holes can be difficult with the body on. Solutions I have found are a real long drill bit if holes align, can be costly. Even the stubby bits available are to long and have to be cut down to use a 90 degree drill. Mostly I use a 1/4" Milwaukee 90 adapter and short hex bits that I step up twice to do the upper frame holes.

Thanks to landarts, I haven't seen the small cap HEI. Will look into that. Easier than moving everything an inch for some clearance.

Thanks Richard, the measurements will be a big help laying it out.
