No offence but your front frame z looks pretty sketchy. It needs to be fully boxed on both sides and top and bottom. From what it looks like right now all side to side force on the front suspension will be put on the plate you added and eventually I would be willing to bet it will fail. I am no welding master but it looks like (kind blurry when zoomed in) that your welds are to cold or possibly dirty. I do get the usage of bolts but I dont think four on each side in a vertical pattern is enough. Please take a good hard look at your frame Z and make sure its safe. I would hate for something to fail and someone get hurt.

Thanks for the positive criticism though this is my first truck and lower so I'm new and need the help... What would u suggest running a 6013 rod at? They're rated at 45-80 amps. Oh and there 3/32.

I do heating and air for a living and here in alabama/georgia it busy season lol! So I only get to do a little at a time. Funny if you look in all the pics u see a/c units and the duct work lift I used to lift the rear in the last pic lol... EVERYTHING is a tool

Like I said Im no welding expert. Ive never stick welded. Only mig and tig Mild steel mainly with a very small amout of aluminum with a tig.

Yea that's what I'm used to but I use someone else's wire welder at there shop all I have is an arc welder that was given to me so I'm having to adjust.

Jumpin right in. Dig it! I did a Z on Bompenstein and ended up not happy.(not low enough) Then did a 'flowing Z'. Are you going to pancake the cross member? On this page theres a vid of the flowing z and my other stupid stuff Subscribed!!!! |

Ha, didn't notice where you were from around here before, neat.
Now on a more serious note, I don't hide that I'm not a lowrider fan, but I am really not just saying this because of that. The welds on the frame "z" or whatever look unacceptably poor. I see a lot of porosity, it doesn't look like it's burned in enough, and by the cab it looks like you just laid a bead on the plate side, without getting any penetration on the frame side of the joint. It also really appears as if you didn't grind to clean, shiny, bare metal before you welded, did you? IMO, you really need to grind it back apart and re weld it before you go any further. That weld is under a lot of force, on a flexy frame that will work it going down the road. The bolts will probably hold it if/when it fails, I guess, but if they don't there's a rather good chance you'll die, kill others, or both. Also, speaking of frame flex, what are you doing to the rest of the frame? It looks like you cut half the height out of the middle, which wasn't really all that stiff to start with. How are you going to put strength back into it so the truck doesn't fold up? Also, make sure you radius it out where you cut it at the corners, those sharp grinder gouges will otherwise be fabulous stress risers for a crack to start, which, again, will probably cause frame failure. Again, please don't take this the wrong way. I just don't want to see you go through all this to have the frame fail and ruin the truck at best, or God forbid, kill/maim you or someone else. I'm certainly not saying what you're trying to do is impossible, but you need to put some thought into the stresses involved before/when cutting on the frame of a truck. And I know you are getting used to the welder, THIS IS NOT WHERE YOU DO THAT! This is where you need a solid weld with good penetration, free of porosity. Get some scrap and practice until you get a good, solid, reliable weld, with consistency, THEN weld the frame. I know you are anxious to finish it, but sometimes you really just need to slow down. I'm really not trying to be mean, and I'm sorry if I come off that way. I would just really hate for you to go through all this to have it fail. |

There will be a 2x4 steel tube welded to the inside of the frame. And yes the z will be redone now that the cab is off... Much easier to do this way. Wow u really have to be careful what you put up or you'll get hammered. The z was not touched since that pic was taken about a week or two ago. Not taking it wrong I appreciate the critic because that's how you learn. This is the way this forum says to do the stock floor body drop. Once the steel tube is welded in ill re mount the cab mount in the new lowered position. Those pics from today are what I just finished today which was strictly cuting I will also be angling and boxing the ends. Guess I should clarify before I post pics!
