Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

Here's mine in the beginning stages of being mounted in a 1941 GMC on an S10 frame. It's a lot more complicated than I thought it would be...I already had a SBC mounted, but stupidly decided to go LSx.

My extremely complex, overdone mounting brackets are being fabricated this week, hopefully they work out.

Now I have to find a smaller oil pan, have headers made (wasn't planning on that!) and do the wiring. Also still need a 4l60e.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

Mine, 68 C20 with 2005 5.3 and 4l60e. Doug Thorley try y's, homemade engine mount adapter plates based on templates from LS1tech.com. Used 6 cyl towers to move engine back, 68 V8 motor mounts and moved tranny crossmember forward little bit.

Doing body work now. Just finished welding in new passenger inner and outer rockers, cab corner, a pilar and kick panel, fender support. That was fun.

More of the same.

Let me know if you need more or an actual measurement for something. Good luck.

I did need to massage the seem lip in the tranny tunnel to get more clearance for the vent tube on top of tranny, to avoid rubbing noises later.

I like where mine sets. Plenty of room up front. Room behind. Not touching firewall etc. I did have to drill rivets out to move tranny crossmember forward, I think about 2 inches. The oil pan( truck pan) clears the front crossmember with at least a 1/4 inch or more. It hangs below frame though. Mines c20 at stock height, so who cares. Skid pan to come later though. The only problems I had with going this far back were the seem on tunnel needed folded back a little, the Lokar cable for shifter to me is a little short, tight bends. And my Doug Thorley headers dumped right in front of Parking brake cables, so it was tight bends coming out to exhaust. I thank my exhaust man for doing such a good job at that fix. Drive shaft needed shortened, but that fixed my vibration problems. Found out shaft yoke wasn't welded on square from factory I guess. Any questions just ask. Good luck. I'll take some pics of the plates I made for the motor mounts tommorrow.

Re: LS swappers, post up your pics!!

5.3L and mockup transmission are finally mounted!

Here's the mounts we created. The chassis is 2003 S10, and the engine sits back about 8.5":

What it looks like when attached to the frame (using all existing threaded holes and stock S10 motor mounts)

Finally!

I have a re-worked harness, LS1 intake, fuel rails, injectors, and idler pulley relocation bracket. I have an un-tuned PCM. I bought a F-body oil pan and dipstick tube. I bought F-body manifolds (which aren't going to work either).

I still need all of the truck accessories and brackets. Also still need a starter. Also, I still need to cross my fingers, and hope that when we swap oil pans and check the bearings that everything looks ok. I still need an electric fan. I still need a 4L60E transmission (have a lead on one for $50, but needs rebuilt, will probably purchase soon). I assume that I'm going to need a MAF. Also need an air intake tube and filter.

This swap will nickle and dime you to death. Don't go into the swap thinking you're going to spend less than $1500. It's just not going to happen.

If anybody switched to a F-body or Vette accessory system, and still has the truck accessory drive that they want to sell, please send me a PM.

It's going to suck forking out the money for custom headers, but we don't see any way around it. We may try to make our own though...

Our next step is mounting the S10 steering column.

I haven't started one yet, but plan on it soon. I purchased the project from another boardmember who had done most of the work to it. I plan on pulling it back apart and finishing the chassis and then putting it back on the road.
