Bringing a 71 Burb home today

This will be in the driveway when I get home. I have been wanting something the whole family can ride in and found this for a good price. It has a GM crate engine in it with supposedly 60k miles. It is a fairly solid truck. I am sure I will find more rust when I get it home but right now it looks like a silver dollar size spot on pass floor is the worst spot. I will need to loose the fugly/nasty captains chairs in the front. It has 2nd and 3rd row seats. I did not even look at the spid but it is a custom deluxe. I am going to sell one or two trucks to fund this project. I got this one for $1200 plus a $200 tow bill. I think I did pretty good. More pics to follow.

Congratulations on your new burb, and welcome to the Suburban family!

Can't wait to see the pics of your clean up and discovery process when you get it home, always been my favorite part of getting a new old truck home!

Re: Bringing a 71 Burb home today

I started getting her cleaned up tonight. She is coming along nicely. I am going to clean her up inside and out and remove the carpet and fugly captains chairs and replace it with a bench. Then fluids, plugs, drain and clean tank or replace and run new lines. Then replace the two barrell with an edelbrock 600 and performer intake. I will change the rear differential as well. I checked the spid tonight and it is a posi rearend and the roof used to be white along iwth some weird factory air set-up. It lost the bug shield and gravel guards on the headlights tonight as well. I will remove the running boards and cattle guard next.

Re: Bringing a 71 Burb home today

Looks like it was taken care of.
The interior isn't all beat up, and the tailgate looks like it hasn't been abused.

How is the rust situation?

If you ever want to ditch the roof rack, let me know!!

That is a gem of a ride. Doesn't look like it's gonna take much work to get in tiptop shape!

Re: Bringing a 71 Burb home today

What size drop rear springs are you guys using to get a six inch drop? The burb is much heavier in the rear so I would guess a 4" truck spring.

Re: Bringing a 71 Burb home today

Ok she lost the fog lights mounted to the bumper and the brush/cattle guard. What a difference. I changed the plugs and was pleased with the ones I removed, I also changed the oil and that looked good as well. I have a Fuel Cell Guy tank coming from a board member that I may use on this or my SWB. Intake and carb are next along with changing the oil in the rear.

Re: Bringing a 71 Burb home today

Got the gas tank removed and scraped a ton of crap off the rear end so I can drain it and just wanted to clean it up in general. Don't I need some special lubricant since it is a posi rearend. Removed the a/c compressor because I do not see the burb having air any time soon and there were a ton of hoses under the hood for the CRAZY factory rear air set up. I also removed carb and dizzy and the intake is unbolted and ready to pull off but I am waiting to pull it until I have the replacement.
