Anyone mounted speakers in 72 door panels?

I'm putting a CD player under the front seat and have been looking for speaker locations in the truck (still have tank). I was looking at my door panels yesterday and looks like I can mount a 6x9 in the raised area of my door panels under the arm rest. Plan is to find some flushmount 6x9's, mount them to the back and then drill holes in the door panel in a pattern for the sound. That way you don't need the ugly speaker grilles only 4 mounting screw heads and some holes. What do you think? Trick is trying to find 6x9's that don't have the tweeter sticking up so high...

Well I guess not, I found some speakers at Bestbuy last night that I think are going to work perfectly, and with some gift cards I've been carrying around for 2 years I got them for almost free!

I'll do a little tech install when I get around to mounting them up.

Re: Anyone mounted speakers in 72 door panels?

i havent attempted to put speaker in my door panels, but my dad did in his 68, and it looks good, the sound is good to, the only problem is when you cut out the holes in the doors, make shure you cut them exact, for my stereo in my c10, i am making a shallow sub box with a pioneer sub, and i am making a upgraded dash speaker set up, going to put 2 4" speakers in a piece of MDF. its not going to raddle my doors off, but it will be good enough.

I'm going to put them as shown in the photo, rear mount and just drill a pattern of holes in the plastic. My door panels are old anyway so I don't feel bad drilling them full of holes. I too am going to mount 2-4" speakers in the dash! Can't wait to have some tunes in the truck.
