Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

My 14 old daughter got this 1985 chevy k10 from her grand father/my dad for here birthday. I drove the truck for a while after high school. it has sat since 2006. body is really bad. we have sourced a southern virtually rust free cab. we have also sourced a 73-79 nose for it as she loves the round headlight front end(can't blame her I love it too.).we managed to fine rust free front clip parts here in nepa. we are hoping to have this done for when she turns 16. truck is a 85 k10 regular cab 8' bed 350 ci with a 700r4 auto trans. She has 2010 hummer H3 wheels on it.

Fantastic! What a great project. I am also hoping to do something similar with my daughter in the future as well.

Can’t wait to see the progress.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

Very cool project and extra cool that she likes Chevy trucks of any style! Obviously you have some major changes to make, but maybe you can do that strategically/surgically so that you can keep the truck up and running for most of the time. That way it doesn't have to be perfectly done when she turns 16 and maybe it will keep both of you motivated if you can drive it most of the time until then. I'm one of those folks that it gets buried if I tear a project too far down, but some people are good at it.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

yea we plan on almost tearing it down almost completely. my uncle has a shop that it is at so we plan on getting the new cab body worked and painted as soon as we can. this way when we are ready we can swap the cab and all the wiring in one day to keep it a runner and mover. I don't like dead sticks they are hard to move in an out of the shop. yea she is a truck girl.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

So pissed about the cab corners I order from rockauto. Well I can't blame rock auto. ordered goodmark cab corners and they came with good mark label and a key part label on it too. Did some research and good mark is not made in the U.S.A. They just distribute the same Taiwan crap that everyone else does and then charge you more for it. goodmark. I found a company called tabco that makes their stuff in U.S.A. I will post pictures of the parts when the arrive.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

Well we got the new cab stripped and the new doors shells on for fitment. Truck looks so much better with the cap off of it. With the holiday progress has been slow. hopefully after the new year we will have the cab corners and rocker the get them fitted.

You'll need the frame horns and brackets off the blue truck to mount a 73-80 front bumper on the 85 frame.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

we have plans to make a custom bumper for the front and possibly the rear too. so we don't need the horns or the bumper.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

we received our parts from tabco a few months ago and got a SUBSTITUTION cab corner. guess what it was. a piece of s%$t key part when i talked to them about not wanting any substitution parts. finally today i was able to get them to ship me one of their cab corner, but they wanted me to pay to ship the one the sent me that i didn't want. not happy with the customer service nor with the 10 month wait for a cab corner. that has stalled the project a lot. plus my daughter cheer schedule with my old night shift work schedule. hopefully things will progress now that i am on day shift and we have gotten a ton of stuff for the build.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

well beware of buying parts from tabco. waited close to a year for one of their cab corners. everytime i called about when i was going to get the corner the kept saying next month. finally go fed up and got a refund fot the corner i didn't recive. got a cab corner and inner cab corner from national parts depo. good quality still made in tiwan but they fit really good.

Re: Father/daughter 85/76 k10 project

Great project keeping family, truck and working with your daughter, priceless. Hope you get the body parts sorted, Looking good otherwise ....Stellar blue is a great color, here's a custom 2 tone with white, not mine, looks sharp IMO. Teach her how to paint, plenty of youtube video's, ( Paint Society) helps get the gun adjusted and laying down base and clear.
