concept 59 roadster panel?

i've been needing a new project since getting my truk done
i have a 59 1 ton panel that i've owned since 1977
it's rough to say the least

i don't have the time or money to restore it
but... this picture made has thinking about making a roadster out of it

my concept roadster panel
chop the top off at the belt line even with the top of the front fenders
lower the cowl and flatten the hood
Z the frame under the passenger compartment so the bottom of the frame is even with the rockers

from this

this is a swb panel, mine is lwb panel. 8ft bed frame.
i could make it with a self storing hard top and a tonneau cover.
unfortunately the panel is in north carolina, i'm in michigan.
am i just being silly?

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

It depends on the condition of the panels. Can't really tell from the pics. If they are straight, sell it. Don't butcher it.

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

_Ogre, do it. Pacific coast customs did a AD one a few years ago and i thought it was cool. He shortened it up between the doors and rear fenders. A lot of custom metal work. I am sure you could build a wild roadster panel.

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

DO IT

Its a one ton panel so not many people will build anything out of it anyway with the long wheel base.
With you fiberglass skills, it would look crazy with full length tonnough (? cant spell).
Ive thought about doing that with my Travelall, but I don't have the stones.

I'm another one for doing it. I personally don't have a problem with cutting up anything no matter how good of condition it's in. It's only steel.

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

Around here it would make a great BSU football tailgate party rig. Seating in the round, built in grill out the back. OR go retro and put in a hot tub...

That looks like fun. Put in a double row of swivel captains chairs out of conversion vans with an aisle down the middle. Or one big bench seat all the way around.

If you did like RudeDude suggested, you could have a 50's version of this. I think it's a cool idea.

Ha! Wouldn't mind the side panels either but I guess that would defeat the purpose...

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

C1 Corvette windshield would probably fit the look of the truck better and would require no sectioning and you get nice chrome trim to boot. I like the idea but would like a shorter wheelbase as well. I like this blazer version(but imagine a task force)...

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

Am I the only one who wants a long panel?......You can haul a lot of big parts in them......anyhow, get the sawsall out and start cutting. It sounds like a cool project.

Re: concept 59 roadster panel?

thanks for the input folks.
i need to get down there and check it out to see if it's still a viable project.
a new style windshield is a possibility, but door handles? really dude???
definitely keep it long, longer the better, lower the better too.
cheap works too

the 1 ton frame makes it hard to work with
the roof could make a couple of extended cab projects work
no to hot tubs and 50 cals

these pictures were taken 10 years ago, i'm sure it has gotten a lot worse than this
