Re: Sandy~~1984 C10 L86/4L80 build

Truck is at a good friend of mines getting a custom cold air intake and a radiator
cover built. After that I should have the seat back and will take the truck to get the exhaust done. then it'll be time to fire it up. More to come....

Ok, here are some pics of the cold air box and rad cover. The radiator and fans are from a 2008-9ish Silverado HD. They fit good, are cheap and work great.

Put the interior back together...and installed a bluetooth amp so we didn't have to wire a head unit in the dash.

Next up, Ridetech front coil overs and sway bar from Matt's Classic Bowties.
The sway bar end links have changed from when the last time I put one on. I don't know what to think about this setup, with the white bushings and all. Looks kinda janky to me....Will prolly take em off and spray bomb em black.....

Re: Sandy~~1984 C10 L86/4L80 build

First start up. We're using the Holley Terminator and we are having issues with the tuning. Seems like the Terminator is behind the curve with the GenV LT motors that have aftermarket camshafts. The majority of camshaft manufacturers make the fuel pump lobe 33% larger in order to bump fuel press. Then I was having problems with the MAP sensor, so I finally plugged the hole up and used the Holley internal MAP. Got the truck to idle and all that jazz, but as soon as I blip the throttle, it starts surging and acting a fool.

So Thursday Im taking the truck to get an alignment and then I will take it straight to Gwatney Performance Innovation and drop it off. Im real good friends with all the guys down there, so hopefully they can get it lined out...because it's above my pay grade on this tuning.

I've have touched every thing on this truck besides the body, everything else has been removed, modified or replaced with new parts.

But Im really happy with this truck and how far it has came since last Sept. When it gets ironed out, its gonna be a nasty little SOB.

Thanks brother. And absolutely can let you know what I did with the fuel system. It has a Boyds tank in the back and I plumbed it with AN lines to a corvette regulator and then on up to the high pressure pump on the motor.

I used Russell Pro Classic II hose, and ends. When I was in the USAF, I built a lot of hose and really like the brand.

Re: Sandy~~1984 C10 L86/4L80 build

Some fuel sys pics I found. Regulator is right before the axle on the driver's side. Fuel tank is a Boyd's unit, and the last is the 90 degree fuel fitting up at the HP pump, however I think I ended up going with a 120 degree one though. And grounds are everywhere, can't have enough of em with these late model engines.

Re: Sandy~~1984 C10 L86/4L80 build

chief, thanks!! I decided to go with a similar hose.... vibrant nylon CPE (not e-85) and the same for the fittings. now!..if I could get the dual tanks to cooperate!

thanks again!

Re: Sandy~~1984 C10 L86/4L80 build

Well good news on the tuning front...my friends at GPI got it whipped. Went down there yesterday and talked to Aaron Salisbury about the next steps for getting the truck lined out. Aaron is a great friend of mine and the head of GPI and a really smart fella. That morning I woke up not knowing what the solution would be, whether it was changing the wiring harness with a factory ecu, or changing the camshaft to one with a stock fuel lobe. I just didn't know and that sucked...were 60 days out from LS fest and that's our target. Aaron and I discussed what was already done to the truck and what it was doing, wouldn't idle worth a flip, and would die after letting off the gas and couldn't do a foot brake. Aaron pulled up all the different specs on the terminator, and went to work. Him and Ryan spent the better part of an afternoon getting the truck happy. He sent me a video about 430 that afternoon with the truck performing like it should. Man what a relief...

I wish I was smart enough to post up the video, but I'm not ha ha. Maybe someone can help me.

So next week ill go get the truck, bring it home to service the AC and take it back to them so they can drive it and do some more tuning on it.

Man Im so thankful for Aaron, Ryan and Ben for figuring this out. And thankful for my good buddy Chris for trusting me and letting me build this truck. He lives in GA and hasn't seen it in person since the week before Christmas. When we started this I told him I would build this truck for free, that's the kind of friend he is.

But I did tell him when he sees it again he will need to buy new rear tires...
