Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

It was 40 and sunny out today...I took advantage and did some work today on the rear floor/ cab support area.. Slow progress... Im not an expert welder but im learning.. I just wish the wire feed was a little smoother. When its smooth I can actually weld pretty damn good
PICS... the last one is the frt cab support i did the otherday

Looks good! I wish I had the patience to fix a cab like that, Ive thrown them away in better shape when they were more work than just a bit of filler and block sanding!

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

I have done some work on the beast lately no pics as of yet... and scored a set of 10 in 16.5s with 36x12.50 Military OZs..the tread is kinda spent but will be good to get things in place and see how it all will fit...the truck originally had 35's on it so Im not afarid Ill have too many issues with clearance... more to come later

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

Attached the kick panel, trimmed the rest of the rot out of the lower firewall. attached the lower A post.... it required some "tweaking" as the A post on this truck was hammered..... got it in and test fot the rocker... I think i may have to add some metal from the top of the A post patch i trimmed. as the rocker doesnt fit right on the lower post after i welded it in.... I am surprised how solid the cab front is once all the steel is in and welded in As I ahve said it IS a learning experience....

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

The "test fit" of the rocker and and one of the new / used 36's they look odd because the truck will be higher up once the big meats are mounted on truck

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

Had to tear myself away from my new K5 to go to harbor frieght and buy some flap wheel and found some other stuff i "needed" .. LOL
anyhow the day was nice n sunny so i got the K20 out to finish the bottom of the firewall cut a nice patch fit perfect only to find what i believed to be stainless was actually aluminum..... NICE NOT! grrr
So I went to work getting some welds cleaned up and finished installing the rear cab support

my welding skills are still not the best but they are improving

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

NASA we have lift off.... worked on the rear corner today... got the B post in ahung a door and it actually fit pretty damn good considering how hammered the rear corenr was a year ago when i got this thing there is light at the end of the tunnel
it took some finessing with a BFH and choice swear words... and started to install After-crap corner.... i may have to make a relief cut in it when its all said and done... but I got it installed around the back curve and into the pinch area.. it got too dak and my camera only let me take 2 pics... tomorrows another day then i get to remove the door and try installing the rocker..... im sure the BFH will be needed some more

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

completed the cab corner installation with one exception.... there is about a 1/4 inch gap between the back of the floor and the cab corner... not sure if it is because this cab was so toasted... or it is the ill fitment of aftermarket taiwanese re-pop junk from LMC
I had to make a couple relief cuts in the bottom just to get it to mate to the outer floor.... im wondering if i might have to cut the back with a pie cut.....
the door now works almost perfect... I guess ill see what happens when i try the rocker tomorrow
here is my work today... i had to make a relief cut in the badly tweaked area along the furthest right hand rib.. it closed OK I am not so worried about the appearance in the rear lower cab since i will have a box on it and no one will see it....

Looking good, I know it's a lot of work, but I am glad to see you were able to use that cab and not trash it. Good luck on the build. Trevor

Re: 1967 Chevrolet K20 "The BEAST"

thanks guys
yes its a flux core welder....
test fit the rocker today.... and re attached the back of the cab to the outerfloor using screws.... since i didnt like the gap at the bottom of the door I sliced the edge of the cab corner and re welded it.. after some persuasion with a BFH and a couple body hammers it fit pretty good and the door works well Not bad considering this is my first project... here are some pics
