Re: "Please Don't take my Plywood"

Basically. Using the 283 block took something like 1/8" overbore. When the 4" bore block came about chevy just used that. The fun came in around 67-68 when the bearing sizes changed. Somewhere in my stash pile I have a big bearing 283 factory forged crank. Something that isn't supposed to have been produced.

I remember my Dad bought a new 68 GMC for $2500....
I think our 69 stepper was $3000. Dad made enough in suggestion awards to pay cash for it.

And - it was a short wheel base. Not unusual, since we did mostly trailer towing, light hauling and parts chasin' with it.

Back in those days I remember dealers advertising short stepsides with six banger and three speed, no radio, no rear bumper, for something like $1750!

I don't remember what my mom's 1969 long bed fleetside C10 with 350 and three speed cost? But the 1966 C10 long fleetside 250 six was something like $2300 in the showroom. Seems like the difference was $1800 trading in her 59 Belair (235/3sp).

Also don't remember the exact number on the 1971 K10. But a couple years later I traded in my 65 Impala for a 73 K20 and it seems like the difference was $3600.

Things had really gone up by 1979. My 1980 K10 (350/465) listed around $9K but I think I got it for $5600 and my 73. That was the last brand new vehicle I ever bought (well, only the second).

Didn't Chevy basically use a 327 block with a 283 crank? About all I remember is a 4" bore and a 3" stroke.
I think that 327 block and 283 crank sounds right, but it's been a long time. For some reason boring a 283 out made it a "301". It was also risky, because there might have been some cylinder shift during casting. Some of them didn't survive the bore job.

I knew two guys who bored their 283's to 301 and never knew of them having problems except one guy kept bending push rods.. wait , I just remembered he had a 55 2 door post with a factory 265 ,, so I only knew personally one who bored out to 301...

Re: "Please Don't take my Plywood"

"long box outsold shortbox 4 to 1", is that true? Seems like it would have been an even greater difference.

Good video, probably applies to station wagons vs SUVs too.
