Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

The shipping is usually the deal breaker, for a lot of people. But I can't do anything about it, it is what it is.
The size and weight is what drives the costs, It is Fedex that sets the price.

But here is what the seat looks like packaged up to ship.

Great work TKCR.

Seeing what you have done has got me wanting to do my seat. I can and have done all my mechanical and body work for years, but I have now decided to tackle the seat.

Best advice I can give, if you decide on a new foam, plan ahead and have everything on hand. It takes time once you order items, to get them, especially from USA1.

Got more work done on the buckets. Here are the stages of the frame restoration
Before, all rusty
After sandblasting
Then paint
Springs installed

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Hey man, great work. I bought an LMC cover for my bench seat and had a friend from our local club help me put it on. This was right after we got it on there, it's since smoothed out.

Also, have you ever talked to Fastenal about shipping? I have another friend that sends parts, like fenders and seats, to and from Cali (lives in Ohio) often on the cheap. I don't know the rates, but the packages are put in their freight. I don't know that the timeline is 2 day shipping type stuff, but way cheaper. Just a thought.

Your seat looks great. I have not looked into Fastenal , but I will, thanks for the tip. I know the shipping is usually a deal breaker for a lot of people. I would do anything to find cheaper shipping. The average is around $200 using FedEx Ground 2-3 days.

Another step done on the Buckets. I have been following along with a video that was posted by Legendary Auto's on how to probably build these buckets.

I really need to go back and reread the whole thread to see what you've done with blues...

But, on the shipping note, 2 ideas:

If you havent looked at greyhound, they aren't too bad sometimes. Depots are limited, but can be decent on big items.

Other one was a company called forward air. They have mini depots at regional and municipal airports, it's strictly a depot to depot thing, but, back when I was a northerners and parted out grand nationals for a decade or two I could ship rear axle ass by from MA to TX for under $200 on a pallet. (Classified it as scrap)

Anyways, it's may help get around the shipping deal breaker.

Or you could make up a variety of colors and take a road trip down south... georgia and even charlotte aren't horrible from OH. Probably sell out quick at the shows....

I plan on doing that with some Swap Meets and Shows, after I retire next year. We have a Swap Meet here in Ohio twice a year, that I have thought about taking my seats to.

Beautiful work. Need a seat for my truck but as you mentioned....shipping can be a deal breaker. Wish I lived nearby. Those are really nice.

Re: Bench Seats, Having them Reupholstered

How do you recommend material type? For example, is one more durable and more comfortable for a proposed daily driver? I'm sure location plays a part. Probably wouldn't want black vinyl in Arizona for a daily LOL. I realllllllly like that brown tweed bench..Do any customers send pics back to you of the installed seats to see how they mesh color wise?

I don't recommend material type, people tell me what they want. Personally I prefer the Velour. The Tweed is nice, the color is actually Mahogany. They did send a pic after it was installed. And the 2nd pic is my seat, Charcoal.

I have done a blue in the past. It would look like this seat, and like the one you posted. Here's a color chart also.
