It's been a long time

Been sitting in my barn w/no brakes for 5+ years....

Got laid off so I now have time(smile).
Entire brake system to be R&Red.

Ordered a bunch from GMCPauls. Still need a bunch of parts I'll prolly buy local...drums, pads, etc.

Got it up on jack stands.
Noticed the rear pass side leaf spring doesn't look right....
compared to the drivers side....

Past life of this truck was out west, camper in the bed, 5th wheel hauler.
It has an external tranny cooler under the front bumper....
Since Im kind of an originality nut, would something like this be a factory option?

While Im there...noticed a few ground straps that need cleaning.
Yea....mission creep has already started.

Thanks much....don t.

Good looking truck! The way I drive and my questionable luck, I'd move that trans cooler to higher ground for sure!

That looks like a helper spring was installed on the passenger side.

Unless there is a fan installed on that trans cooler, it isn't doing much good. Maybe just put a scoop on it? Mine's tilted into the wind, but a lot of it is up behind the bumper. I'm thinking of adding muffin fans, but since I got the engine cooling under control, I'm going to wait until I pull a long hill before I get too carried away.

Re: It's been a long time

The trans cooler is leaking. My radiator has a few holes, should be replaced.
I have no plans for the truck to haul much more than plywood. Since the spid ( ) has nothing about the cooler, I would think it's aftermarket.

Turns out, the pass side leaf spring, near the shackle, one of the leaves is broke. The helper is kinda keeping everything in place.

Have fun...don t.

Re: It's been a long time

That is a nice looking truck. Glad you are getting it set up so you can use and enjoy it. From what you described as far as work the truck might do - once you get a good radiator in with an integral transmission cooler, I would think you could pull the auxiliary cooler off and get rid of the lines. At this point they might be more of a liability of leaks than a benefit.
