taking a poll on tires

Thought I would take a vote on what you like the best. OEM split rims with caps, or turbines with wider tires.
Thanks Russ

Re: taking a poll on tires

I like the steel wheels and caps. Where did the front caps come from? Cut rear caps?

Yes the front caps where cut right at the paint line from a set of 2wd caps. Works perfectly.
Thanks Russ

Re: taking a poll on tires

On that truck, with just those two choices..... OEM.

In reality though, having once owned 7.50-16s on split rims, I prefer 255/85-16s on 16x7 Accuride steelies.

With the lol of that truck I go with factory steel wheels. If you stay with the split rims that’s up to you but like that factory look foe certain.

OEM every time for me. Can’t say I’d blame you for wanting something more serviceable, but I guess that’s what leads to the split rims being such a rarity these days.

Re: taking a poll on tires

That’s a hard one, I think OE edges out the turbines but not by very much. Beautiful truck regardless.

I too like the stockers, but if you painted the turbines red they would look pretty good too.

The only problem I see here is there still aren’t enough pictures of that red beauty on this forum!

Re: taking a poll on tires

If the truck had sport mirrors, no cab lights, and no brush guard...I'd say turbines. But, i t has too much of a farm truck look and the split rims along with the knobby tires really bring it home. I am a turbine wheel lover, but your truck is awesome with the OEM setup!

I'll swing by this weekend to pick up the turbines.

I prefer the O.E. look, usually. I don't know of too many aftermarket wheels I like on a 3/4 ton....just my take........

I can't vote for either. My preference would be a steel, non split wheel, period.

Split rims and inner tubes are from a bygone era. The safety aspect of them nixes them as a choice, completely to start with, for me.

Russ, If these are the ONLY choices you plan to go with, the turbines win out, for me...

Love the stock look, just not a fan of split rims. Too many times I saw issues when I worked in tire stores. That is why I chose the turbines.

OEM rims definitely. The turbines make the truck look almost bland, whereas the OEM rims really make the truck stand out.

Re: taking a poll on tires

Seems like a good place to add this. I've told this little story on here before, so this is for anyone that may have missed it the first time around.
The first thing I did when I bought my truck in 1977 was drive to a tire shop and trade the new highway tires (what was the dealership thinking?) for new 7.50-16 Armstrong 8PR traction tires.

The truck had OEM split rims, and the guy changing the tires did okay but it was not his area of expertise. One tire absolutely would not balance, and he finally tore it down. He had left the new liner folded up inside the tire...
After fixing that little issue, he thanked me for my business and asked me to please not come back as long as I owned those wheels.

I voted for the steelies & caps, but in the same delima myself between steelies, slots, & H2 17s ... I'm keeping all 3 sets and just swapping around as the mood changes
